Oh hey, it's an anime meme )
dejana: (BNF plz?)
Hmmm. It's been a while since I shamelessly whored for flattery. I've never done one of these before, but 22 pages of participants can't be wrong, right?

Leave anonymous comments for me at the Holiday Love Meme!

To put something a little more substantial here, I went through my old entries and split up a couple of tags. There are now separate tags for con reports vs. general entries about cons, and fanfic vs. original fiction.

Getting down to the wire now. I'm back at work, and will be until I leave for Boston, so time to get ready is reduced to what little extra time I can manage to stay awake before and after shifts. That includes packing. Ugh.

It doesn't help that things don't seem to be as easy the second time around. I've just about got the staff sorted out, but the wig has turned out to be obnoxiously troublesome. I burned the heck out of my fingers while making a mess of the new bun today, which hopefully can be saved, but I also made a minor error in the construction of the stub which could lead to the whole thing coming apart if I'm not careful. :\

On the plus side, though, it looks like I may just barely get all this done before I fly out on Wednesday.

Reposting my to-do list so I can keep track of it easier. (Also FYI, due to the below I haven't been able to keep up on my flist lately. It'll probably be that way until mid-April, I'm afraid.)

Lots of gentle snow flurries today. Very pretty. This is the kind of snow I like. :)

My two days off are over and I'm back at work again. I didn't get as much done as I'd hoped, but that's normal. xD I did finish almost all the tweaking I wanted to do on "The Bad Crack." I just have a couple of bits to polish up, and then I'm going to attempt to add an extra overlay that'll either make or break the whole thing. It'll be good practice, if nothing else. I plan to give it a shot next week on my days off, which will be my last chunk of at-home free time before the contest deadlines.

That's about it for me at the moment. I'm most likely going to this on Tuesday with [livejournal.com profile] marainsanity and her crew. I'm a bit nervous, since I've never hung out with that crowd before ^^; but it should be fun. :)

Oh, and also... I've finally gone over to the Dark Side. I joined a LiveJournal RP. >.> *ducks*

Here's an interesting quiz...

My Cloverfield fic seems to have gone over well. I got six glowing reviews on FF.net, more than almost any other story in the (tiny) category. :3 Now I just have to get in the habit of responding to reviews, which never really became customary in the Sailormoon fandom but seems to be everywhere else. ^^;

I really do have a gift for fanfiction. Whether that gift will also apply to original fiction remains to be seen.

And now for some memes I got tagged on and hadn't gotten around to doing. They have tag instructions, but if you get tagged and don't want to do it, no biggie.

from [livejournal.com profile] vayleen

The Handwritten Meme

1) your handle/name/username
2) left or right handed?
3) favourite letters to write
4) least favourite characters to write
5) write "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
6) tag 5 people

from [livejournal.com profile] yellowallamanda

A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

1. I write a handwritten first draft of almost everything before typing it.

2. I know I'm lucky not to be one, but I can't stop wanting to be a BNF. -_-

3. My favorite sound in the world is the wind in the leaves.

4. There are certain words I really, really like for no evident reason. I intend to make a list someday. Two that come to mind at the moment are "planet" and "weapon."

5. I love having long hair, but I'm too lazy to do anything with it. Most often I just braid it to have it out of the way.

6. I love the smells of the various seasons. Not the items associated with each season, but the scents of the seasons themselves. My favorites are autumn and fall.

7. I'm a very lonely person, but I don't let myself feel it most of the time.

I tag a bunch of the new folks on my flist:

[livejournal.com profile] lexie_b
[livejournal.com profile] lunarkitten
[livejournal.com profile] sd_segara
[livejournal.com profile] ryou_lover15
[livejournal.com profile] serasaturn
[livejournal.com profile] tesh_chan
[livejournal.com profile] lunapitty

from [livejournal.com profile] preshrunken

1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your favorite song.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your lj with the answers to these questions. (Or leave a comment. Say if you want it screened)
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask others in your own post.
5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.

------------------------------------------------

1.) What's the one biggest regret you have?
That would be a tie between not saying "no" when he told me he considered me his girlfriend and asked if I felt the same way, and Otakon 2005.

2.) If you had to write for one fandom for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?
If it's allowed, my own. >3 I've had a canon in my head for the past fourteen years that I'm constantly making up stories for. Someday it'll be a book. If that doesn't count, though, I'd have to go with Sailormoon. It's still the fandom I'm most inspired by, even though I'm ready to move on to other things now. I wouldn't enjoy being stuck in one fandom forever, but if I had to, I could write Sailormoon indefinitely.

3.) Who is your role model?
Ehee... if I have one, it's probably [livejournal.com profile] sache. ^^;;; All hail the mighty Fic Bitch? ahem >.> *hides* I'm sure there's someone else, but no one's coming to mind at the moment ^^;;;
(ETA: You know, the more I think about it, the more I think I don't really have a role model. There are people I admire, certainly, and would love to be more like, but I don't attempt to pattern my life off theirs or anything.)

4.) Do you have any weird quirks? What are they?
Mmm... I read the same favorite books over and over instead of checking out new ones. I go to the movies all by myself and it doesn't bother me in the least. I wear the same necklace almost every day. I haven't watched/read at least a third of the anime/manga I own. Sometimes I drive and drive in no particular direction just for the heck of it. And I find it incredibly difficult to convince my brain that the online buddy I'm meeting and their virtual persona are one and the same person.

5.) If you had to pick a movie to describe you or your life, which one would it be?
For the first eighteen years or so, that would be Never Been Kissed. God, that's dreadful to say. I saw that movie once and could never watch it again. Too much of a reminder of things I don't want to think about. When it comes to my 20s, however, there really isn't a good match. But I plan to write one. :3

Got this from [livejournal.com profile] wombat_socho, original source here.

class and privilege meme )

I don't really like this meme. It doesn't take into account the fact that my dad didn't finish college until I was in high school, or that my mom was never able to use her degree because she has epilepsy, or that all the books in our house were older than me, or that we went on a grand total of two family vacations (one of which was within the state), or that we never had more than one phone line (when it wasn't disconnected), or that we almost lost the house several times. I like more of the items on the original college version of the exercise. Still, it's food for thought.

I suppose I did have some privilege in life, but only because my parents hung on by the skin of their teeth. I'm a damn lucky person to be where I am now, and I'm grateful for it every day. I'm also a real success story as far as social programs are concerned. I would never have gotten where I am today without the welfare system keeping a roof over our heads, and a federal grant funding the SUMS program, and state and federal financial aid. I know the system has problems and there are people out there who take unfair advantage of such things, but without them I never would've broken out of the rut I grew up in. Sometimes the system works.

Post of randomness.

Today I dreamed I got into a huge fight with Lord Chaos at AN. WTF, brain?? o_O

Nobody's said anything about the goofy fandom letter I put in the Christmas cards I sent to my online friends. I'm kind of worried. ^^;;

Does anyone know how to turn off comment notification on a specific post? My inbox is getting flooded by the friending meme and I can't figure out how to make it stop. I don't want to turn ALL my notifications off. :\

Even when I win at bento, I fail. I finally got five lunches made, but not only did I end up going out to dinner last night, I totally forgot it's the Anime Detour staff New Year's Eve party tomorrow night and I won't need a bento. That's two wasted lunches. *sigh*

If I ever own a popular fandom community, I am not allowing mixed icon posts. Seriously, ONE comm-appropriate icon in a fake-cut post of 52? GTFO.

In case anyone's curious, here are the answers to the rest of the lyrics-guessing meme from a while ago.

the unguessed )

Also, hello to the new folks I've picked up from the friending meme. ^^
dejana: (FMA - Edward Elric)
Well, for better or for worse, I decided to go for it.

Sailormoon Fandom Friending Meme

It was [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets that put me over the edge. Someone submitted a secret that their Sailormoon vids were earning them fans, but no friends. In my experience, what tends to happen with fanstuff is, if you're good, you make friends with your fellow creators, but not so much your audience. As a fanfic writer, most of the friends I've made in Sailormoon fandom are fellow writers. I really felt for this person, because vidding isn't very big in SM, so it has to be hard to make friends in that field. Added to the other posts and comments and trends I've been seeing over the past couple of months, I decided to give the friending meme a try.

We'll see if anyone bites, in either sense of the term.
dejana: (Yay!)
(Why are only offline friends commenting on my lyrics-guessing meme post? Where are all the music fans on my flist? o_O)

I'm so bored lately. I have plenty of stuff to do, but none of it appeals to me. I need something new to get passionate about. :\

I had planned to post bento pictures today, but I ended up with Mystery Bento! Of potential DOOM! Scary mysterious bento... o.o The last two days I got up two hours early to try to make bento for this five-night run I'm in the middle of right now, but I was trying new recipes and totally screwing them up, so as of last night I'd still only managed to finish two bento lunches of the seven I needed. I planned to get up early again today and finish up, now that I had the main courses ready. But as I was waking up today, my sister came in and told me she had finished the bento so I could sleep. She even cleaned up the mess I'd left in the kitchen after last night's disaster. How nice! ^______^

But she forbade me to look in the bento to see what she'd put in there. So I have Mystery Bento of Mysteriousness. There's one in the work fridge right now for later tonight, but I have no idea what's in there. Should be interesting. She also used the as-yet-unused totoro bento box, but she said that one's for Christmas. I'm curious...

Speaking of Christmas, I have some overdue thanks to gush out. ^^ I got holiday cards from [livejournal.com profile] amazonqueenkate, [livejournal.com profile] teh_maskmaid, [livejournal.com profile] faithfullove and [livejournal.com profile] saphrian. Thanks so much, guys! (I hope I'm not missing anyone, I gathered up all the cards I could find in a hurry before leaving for work this evening.) [livejournal.com profile] saphrian, your handwriting is amazing! I'm so jealous! *_* Mine's so plain and boring. ;_;

I also got a pretty Japanese card from [livejournal.com profile] misscheeveeuss, along with something off my wishlist - a set of four Hello Kitty mayonnaise cups (sauce containers) for my bento boxes! YAY! Thank you so much! Now I can have veggie dip and barbecue sauce and fun stuff like that. :D If anyone else was planning to send me some, don't worry, I can always use more. ^^ (BTW, kelleh... you know there's a translation on the back of the card, right? ^^;)

Speaking of the wishlist meme, I also got two great virtual gifts from [livejournal.com profile] heavenly_pearl. One was the super-happy icon I'm using on this post, which I know I'll find a ton of uses for. ^^ The other was the indulgence of my moment of ego weakness - a page for myself on the Fanhistory wiki. ^^;; link! Thanks again, Yumeko.

I was thinking about the Fanhistory wiki the last couple of days. I'd been wanting a page there for a while because I'm an attention whore, but it's bad form to make your own pages. Even now, I'd like to add more info to the page, but it seems wrong because it's my page. Which makes sense, except, is there anyone out there besides me who could write a timeline of my involvement in fandom? It's a big catch-22; it's totally egotistical to write your own pages, but if you don't, the wiki will remain incomplete.

I like the Fanhistory wiki and I wish there was more information on there, but I have a feeling many people who would like to help are running into the same problems. The only person you're really fully qualified to write about is yourself. Still, it would be good to get some more information on there, particularly about modern Sailormoon fandom. There's not a lot on there about the fandom as I've known it in recent years. (And I could be wrong, but I believe I'm friends with most of the key figures in SM fandom today as far as fanfiction is concerned, and none of you are on there.)

So I was thinking... what if a bunch of us got together and added to the wiki with information about each other? That way we wouldn't be writing about ourselves, but the info would still get in there, which I feel is important for some strange reason. (Can't really explain why myself. ^^; But I know there are a lot of people who believe SM fandom died years ago and have no idea there is still fic being written. Things are definitely going downhill, and I think it would be right to have a "We were here" stamp, somewhere.) Anyone out there interested in collaborating on this?

Ahh, days off. :)

The best thing about day shifts is being done with them. xP I'm off until Friday night.

Yesterday my sister and I went over to the Mall of America to do some shopping. MOA is the last place you want to go if you're looking for something specific, but it's kind of fun for general Christmas shopping when your list isn't set in stone. I'm not buying many gifts this year, but I did pick up something for my .moon gift exchange person. ^^ I also made my sister play a round of DDR with me. She used to be better than me at the game, but now that I've been playing the home version more often I've jumped ahead. >) I'm still not very good at the arcade version (is it just me or does it grade harsher than the home versions?) but I can at least pass. You get four songs for a dollar in the MOA arcade, nice deal. It appears Nickelodeon bought the rights to the amusement park, so that should be interesting. It'll have to be better than "The Park," anyway. Blargh. After shopping my sister and I had dinner at a Chinese buffet near home. And then I tortured her by working on an entry for Detour's WTF AMV contest. >)

Today [livejournal.com profile] nephthysmoon and I had a long chat while I finished my Christmas cards. ^^ I got them all in the mail today, so everyone who asked for a card in my LJ entry a while back will be getting one soon. I also sent off my gift exchange package, so that made the deadline, along with a wishlist item for [livejournal.com profile] vayleen. :D

(WTF? "A Long December" just came up on Winamp again, and I know I listened to this earlier. This "random" clearly isn't as random as it should be.)

Hmm, as long as I'm at it, this recent meme looked like fun.

Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 50 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game post your own!

lyrics! )

And now I'm off to see "The Golden Compass." I've heard some mediocre reactions to it, but I figure, what the hell. There are worse ways to spend an evening.
dejana: (Default)
I'm bored. I have another half hour before my shift ends. I'm making another post. >3

First of all, it's two weeks until Christmas. That means it's time to repost the 10 wishes meme.

instructions )

my wish list )

Two weeks until Christmas... eesh... I need to get my Christmas cards done this week.

Today's lunch was on the company. Our bosses took everyone in the area out to lunch this month, one shift at a time. It was at Axel's, and it was FABULOUS. First there were GIANT popovers, I mean HUGE. Then appetizers - enormous onion rings and tasty beef tips. And then entrees. I had the prime rib, and it came with a salad (half a head of fresh, crisp lettuce that you cut up and mixed with the accompaniments yourself) and a loaded baked potato. And then dessert. I had a fancy hot chocolate. It was two hours, the courses were spaced out enough that you didn't get uncomfortably full, and the service was amazing. Really high-class. It was a great time.

Of course, now I'm almost wondering if I should be worried this is a last hurrah before downsizing or something. >.>

At lunch I had the near-displeasure of explaining my primary hobby - fandom - to some of my coworkers. I really hate doing that. -_- I think it went all right, though, they didn't end up thinking I'm too weird. ;P

I'm finding myself once again tempted to do a Sailormoon friending meme. I was poking around the [livejournal.com profile] sailormoonfans friends list and saw a ton of people getting hardly any comments on their personal entries, and even some mentioning how quiet their flists had become. SM fandom isn't like other LJ fandoms, we don't seem to make friends automatically like people in other fandoms do. With the fandom shrinking, it might be good to get some new connections going, and now that I'm active again I think it would be nice to make some new friends... but SM fandom is so unusual, I'm not sure what it would do with a friending meme. :|

Speaking of memes, I have a feeling I did this one earlier this year, but what the heck.

The first line of each month's first entry meme! )

Pretty boring, with the hiatus and all.

I've decided to go ahead and do the wish list meme this year. I'm keeping an eye out for other people's wish lists and plan to grant as many wishes as I can! ^^

I am suddenly so tempted to make a Sailormoon friending meme and just friend a bunch of people from the fandom. Most likely that would lead to me posting here again, which would just set me up to screw up all over again.

Someone stop me. ;_;
dejana: (Chiyo-chan)
Okay, I have to be off to bed now, I didn't finish but here's what I have so far. I'll write the rest tomorrow. I bent the rules of grammar a bit to keep them all one sentence, but too bad. :P

If you wanna know who picked what...

A for Afterlife (Mamoru/Kunzite)
Although he knew he was undeserving of such a blessing, his final thought was a feverent hope that there was no afterlife, that he was headed to an empty oblivion where he would not suffer the eternal guilt of betraying his prince.

B for Bounty (Spike/Minako)
She was pure gold, bright and shining as the ancient metal that had long ago been replaced by softer currencies, at once the most priceless and most unattainable bounty he had ever chased.

G for Greed (Vimes)
Despite all appearances, he was sometimes tempted to fully accept what fortune had handed him, to build a fortress of money that no enemy could penetrate, but he would never admit it, not even to himself.

I for Isolation (Mamoru/Jadeite)
In one aspect, they were more alike than anyone else - they were both loners, isolated both by nature and by choice, possessed of a great strength but ultimately powerless unless they learned to accept allies.

J for Justice (Sailor Cosmos)
This couldn't be the end - this burned and broken land, these corpses passed beyond all hope of resurrection, this empty world that had once housed a thriving civilization; there had to be a chance for justice somewhere, and she was determined to find it.

K for Knowledge (Magrat)
Books were solid, tangible, comforting pieces of reality she could hold in her hands... and although Magrat knew they limited her, she feared them less than the unbridled wild energy that used Granny as its vessel.

L for Lime (Makoto/Asanuma)
He never told a soul, but what he loved more than Makoto was the thought of her with that athletic blonde friend of hers, their limbs entwined until you couldn't tell where one ended and the other began, the lemon to her lime.

M for Mine (Dejana/Mamoru)
Mine to manipulate, mine to control, mine to put through the wringer with every cruelty my twisted imagination can produce until your fictional pain is nearly tangible to all who read the words. (Mwahahahaaa. Schism coming soon to an archive near you.)

N for Nightmare (Mamoru/Zoisite)
That night it came again, the warm and peaceful dream made a nightmare by its pleasantness, the images insisting Zoisite should be a friend, not an enemy, the impossible fantasy that plagued Mamoru with uncertainty and self-doubt.

P for Parenthood (Setsuna)
Hotaru would never know the cold confines of the barriers that had melted away the first time Setsuna held her, nor (thanks to her guardian's solemn vow and watchful eye) would she need them.

Q for Quandary (Ami/Zoisite)
She was a Lunarian soldier, he was a Terran general; the inexplicable passion between them could not, should not, would not be indulged - but neither could it be ignored.

S for Stability (Usagi/Mamoru)
Mountains might crumble, entire civilizations might rise and fall, but there would always be this - this warmth to encircle them, this presence to sustain them, this love to be a model unto all others.

T for Truth (Nephrite/Naru)
At times, Naru sensed there were things Sanjouin was not telling her, but it didn't matter - whatever he might be to others, she knew who he was inside, and that was the man she loved.

Y for Youth (Queen Serenity/Nephrenia)
All the jealousy, all the rivalry, all the desperate nights and anguished mornings, the entire fiery feud was traceable to one bitter spark: Nephrenia would grow old, while Serenity remained young.

Z for Zero (Ami)
A dreadfully chilling moment, a heartstopping shock to the stomach, a world that spun and darkened, a future brought crashing down, an end of everything - a second glance at the name, a sudden lessening of gravity, a strangled laugh of relief - the wrong paper.

Unfinished:

C for Careless (Mamoru/Nephrite)
D for Dessert (Usagi)
E for Eggs (Ed and Ein)
R for Repentance (Yusuke/Keiko)
U for Umbrella (Chibiusa/Usagi)
V for Vim (Julia/Spike)

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] wombat_socho. Looks like fun. Modified it a little since it wasn't put together well.

1. Grab the nearest book. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
That would be "The Prestige" by Christopher Priest, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sache. I also blame her for the $50+ worth of manga I also ended up carrying out of B&N with me. But that's another story.

2. Open the book to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog.
The part of it in which I live is the wing where I grew up. [3] If there had been any preparations for the visit, Rosalie and I were not told what they were. The first we knew about it was when a car arrived at the main gate and Stimpson went down to let it in.

Reply to this post, and I will tell you my favorite icon of yours. Then, post this to your own journal using your own favorite icon.

(Actually, I'm being lazy and not deciding on a favorite icon, since my real favorites haven't been uploaded yet.)

([livejournal.com profile] saphrian, that icon is a riot.)

Go through your journal and post the first sentence in the first entry of each month.

January: Aaaand I'm back.

February: I dreamed I was dead.

March: I feel like I'm losing touch with everyone and everything that ever mattered to me.

April: zOMG i'M POpULar oN TEH INTERNETS!!1!1!11

May: Sorry I haven't updated for a while, this month's been a busy one with preparing for Anime North and all.

June: I'm home! ^^

July: I'm slowly getting well again, for those of you who'd like to know that. ^^

August: Warning, the cut portions of this entry are extremely long and image-heavy.

September: Well, there's nothing quite like a bunch of people deciding to do something right after someone else became the first to take the risk. -_-

October: I went to the Renaissance Festival again today, all by myself.

November: WTF is wrong with LJ tonight??

December: Reminder: If you'd like a holiday card from me, see this post. Last chance, folks.

About Me

I'm a techie, a geek, a fangirl, and an aspiring writer. I've been in internet fandom since 1996. I welcome new LJ friends, but please allow me some time to get to know you before I friend you back.

I have a tendency to attempt a little of everything, whether or not I have time for it. See my userinfo for more about me and what I do.
