I don't want to love you.

I am suddenly so tempted to make a Sailormoon friending meme and just friend a bunch of people from the fandom. Most likely that would lead to me posting here again, which would just set me up to screw up all over again.
Someone stop me. ;_;

If something doesn't seem like a bad idea to you, but I tell you that it is a bad idea, that means it's a bad idea. ;)
Now, you think that is a bad idea. And I think that is a bad idea. So we're going to go with that being a bad idea. (Though not for the same reason. I hate friending memes with a fiery passion as they tend to lead to wank. And also, they're dumb.)
Did that help?

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 06:25 am (UTC)Although I can't help but think SM fandom could use a friending meme. I don't like them much myself, but the fandom is getting pretty disconnected these days and some of the folks on the big comms seem like cool people it would be nice to get to know. It might be good to have something to reconnect the remaining SM folks with each other. But for me, personally, it's probably not worth the consequences. xP

Hmm, there must be some other way to get the fandom back together, because admittedly friending memes can get out of hand. You're right in the post above; the fandom's so fragmented right now. :(

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 07:52 pm (UTC)Sailor Moon fans are notoriously full of themselves and think they know everything about Sailor Moon and everything else in the universe and they are totally annoying that way most of the time. Most every time I venture out of my sites, I want to go on a fwapping spree on all the stupid and/or haughty attitudes I see in SM fans. I don't allow that crap on my site, so people either wise up or leave, (and then usually come back with more maturity, oh the stories I could tell you) but it's all over the place on most other SM communities, so I don't get involved. It's waaaaay to much stupid drama for something that's supposed to be fun. There's too much l33t attitude. So what if you're good at something? That doesn't make you better than Naoko, but the way THEY TALK they THINK they are. *fwaps* Honestly, okay - are you a manga-ka? Do you have your own Sailor Moon community? Have you actually read the manga? Did you ACTUALLY SEE every episode in Japanese and English? The number that haven't, but get on their high-horse about stuff is astonishing. And then there's like the n00bs in the fandom that go around critiquing the oldies to get attention. *fwaps to death* GAH! Look you got me started...*takes a deep breath and calms down*
Honestly, there are a lot of fandoms out there with generally nicer (and more mature) fans. (I would know since I have my fingers in everything.) I would recommend spreading out to other fandoms instead. Not that SM fandom couldn't use a pick-me-up, it's been dying for a while with short bursts of re-interest but because the fandom is so volatile, it probably is best left to it's own devices. I've been in SM fandom for 11 years, and there are a couple of things I know for sure. 1) No matter what you do there are dumbarses that will bash it. 2) All SM fans will never been united harmoniously. They simply refuse to be reasonable.
Don't know about this messing up experience of yours, I never heard of it - but yeah if you're worried, probably best to let sleeping dogs lie and all that good stuff. Meh.

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 09:34 pm (UTC)Actually, I just replaced "Sailor Moon" with "Linux" in the above post, and was disturbed at how much sense that post STILL made. Linux developers tend towards being very vocal about their particular applications they're using with the operating system (Gnome vs. KDE, for example). And Linux geeks are as a rule quite a bit older than Sailor Moon fans (go to a Linux fest and count the grey haired ones. The guys in the mid-40's are comparative youngsters). C'est la change?

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 09:42 pm (UTC)ZOMG, don't get me started on Linux. *stabs* I'm still a n00b to it myself, but already...
I haven't had quite the experience with the Linux geeks yet on that level, but HOLY HECK I want to fwap a lot of them already from my limited contact. ;_;
*goes on a maiming and killing spree* w00t

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 09:48 pm (UTC)It's just they get an idee fixe about what goes good WITH Linux, although to be fair they always try to say YMMV and "It's all about CHOICE!". Personally, I find a good burgundy goes best with Linux. YMMV.
Which distro are you using? I'm on Mandriva 2007 right now, I'll upgrade to 2008 when it comes, and if Dell ever gets off their a$$ and starts to sell in Canada laptops with Ubuntu preloaded, I'll get one of those.

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 10:04 pm (UTC)I suppose it's my bad for giving out access, but half the people helping me could probably hack the snot out of my server if they really wanted to because they are just beast like that. *sighs* Everybody wants a piece of my stuff though because I have hugely successful sites with mega traffic. Any webby geek takes one look at the potential places they can go with my stuff and it's "ooohhh shiny, can I eat it Lust? Can I? Can I?" And I'm uneducated about Linux enough to go, "okay...just this once..."
Ugh...I have an Intel Celeron 2.0GHz running red hat 5 and it totally blows. -_-; I can't get the stupid thing to do ANYTHING CORRECTLY. *fwaps it* We had to cheap out too because we didn't have the money for the beast machines we really wanted. What I wouldn't give for a quad core with something really easy like Debian. It's remote access though cuz it's in Texas. We're seriously thinking about just running a T line to our house and setting up a beast machine here from scratch. In the long run...it's less complicated. But like I said, my knowledge on it all is sooooo limited, and nobody will teach me! It's annoying as hell. I'll Google how to do stuff and it just takes for granted that you'll know how to do some things that I don't know how to do so I get lost easy. I'm a *REALLY QUICK* learner, but I can't learn without a step by step and I can't afford to break it and rebuild either. I'm getting a dummy server sometime this week though and then the play will start.
So what do you do with yours do you use it for PC or as a server?

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 10:17 pm (UTC)It is only a "local server" (i.e., localhost is serving the local workstation for CUPS, mySQL and PostgreSQL, that sort of thing).

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 10:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, mine runs local also which is part of my problem. I would much rather have a separate box for mySQL especially. The script on my site eats up a lot of resources so it lags a lot. When the bots come they really hurt the speed.

Date: Oct. 30th, 2007 02:55 am (UTC)Dual booting was quite the challenge: I dropped the Mandrake disk in the CD drive, rebooted the machine, had Mandrake's install program say to me, "Hey!! I detected Windows!! Would you like to dual boot?", and had to choose "yes" or "no". Man, I was tempted to say "no".
(Installing a new printer was equally a challenge. "Hey!! You've got a new printer!! Wanna make it the default?" Yes. "Wanna print a test page?" Yes. "Test page OK?" Yes. Finis. No installing drivers as I had to do in Windows. No rebooting. Just good to go.)
