I don't want to love you.

I am suddenly so tempted to make a Sailormoon friending meme and just friend a bunch of people from the fandom. Most likely that would lead to me posting here again, which would just set me up to screw up all over again.
Someone stop me. ;_;
Someone stop me. ;_;

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 10:04 pm (UTC)I suppose it's my bad for giving out access, but half the people helping me could probably hack the snot out of my server if they really wanted to because they are just beast like that. *sighs* Everybody wants a piece of my stuff though because I have hugely successful sites with mega traffic. Any webby geek takes one look at the potential places they can go with my stuff and it's "ooohhh shiny, can I eat it Lust? Can I? Can I?" And I'm uneducated about Linux enough to go, "okay...just this once..."
Ugh...I have an Intel Celeron 2.0GHz running red hat 5 and it totally blows. -_-; I can't get the stupid thing to do ANYTHING CORRECTLY. *fwaps it* We had to cheap out too because we didn't have the money for the beast machines we really wanted. What I wouldn't give for a quad core with something really easy like Debian. It's remote access though cuz it's in Texas. We're seriously thinking about just running a T line to our house and setting up a beast machine here from scratch. In the long run...it's less complicated. But like I said, my knowledge on it all is sooooo limited, and nobody will teach me! It's annoying as hell. I'll Google how to do stuff and it just takes for granted that you'll know how to do some things that I don't know how to do so I get lost easy. I'm a *REALLY QUICK* learner, but I can't learn without a step by step and I can't afford to break it and rebuild either. I'm getting a dummy server sometime this week though and then the play will start.
So what do you do with yours do you use it for PC or as a server?

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 10:17 pm (UTC)It is only a "local server" (i.e., localhost is serving the local workstation for CUPS, mySQL and PostgreSQL, that sort of thing).

Date: Oct. 29th, 2007 10:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, mine runs local also which is part of my problem. I would much rather have a separate box for mySQL especially. The script on my site eats up a lot of resources so it lags a lot. When the bots come they really hurt the speed.

Date: Oct. 30th, 2007 02:55 am (UTC)Dual booting was quite the challenge: I dropped the Mandrake disk in the CD drive, rebooted the machine, had Mandrake's install program say to me, "Hey!! I detected Windows!! Would you like to dual boot?", and had to choose "yes" or "no". Man, I was tempted to say "no".
(Installing a new printer was equally a challenge. "Hey!! You've got a new printer!! Wanna make it the default?" Yes. "Wanna print a test page?" Yes. "Test page OK?" Yes. Finis. No installing drivers as I had to do in Windows. No rebooting. Just good to go.)
