The Portal section of .moon is now open. If anyone out there has links to submit, head on over and do so. Websites owned by .moon members get special prominence on the listing pages.

There's something about the Portal that makes me feel extra good about .moon. It's like the site is somehow more complete, even though this section wasn't in my original vision. It feels like the site is three times as good just from this simple little addition. It's made me proud of .moon again. ^^

Side note!

You Are 46% Evil

You are evil, but you haven't yet mastered the dark side.
Fear not though - you are on your way to world domination.

And today...communities are unblocked. Um.

You know what's the most awesome about dreams? They make the night seem longer, so when it's time to get up, you feel like you slept five times longer than you actually did. ^____^

Of course, when the dreams are about weird movie theatres and even more weird circuses and full of people you haven't seen in ages, staying in dreamland might not be that happy of a thing. o_O But at least when I'm sleeping, I'm free of the feeling that there's something dreadfully wrong with me...

Just gotta wait four more days...

I finished coding the Portal. It's being tested now. In a week or so it should be ready for the rest of .moon to use. I feel so productive! :D

Now for the half-dozen other things I've been putting off... -_-
dejana: (Wolfwood)
For once I actually got to bed at a good time yesterday, which was great because that meant I got an awesome night's sleep and woke up before my alarm. I had time to watch the end of Adult Swim and have breakfast before going to work, hooray! So today started off well...but now I'm really, REALLY tired, so much so that my legs ache, which doesn't make sense because I've barely been awake 12 hours, and I have three more hours of work left. How annoying.

At least it's nice and cold and cloudy outside.

I also, finally, built the links section for .moon that I've been planning for quite some time now. Creating the section itself was easy as pie, which was lovely, but the functions needed to maintain it are proving to be time-consuming and obnoxious to code. @_@ I need to finish all the moderating functions and then build the reporting and rating functions before the section will be ready for testing, not to mention create all the graphics for it, which I hope to do tomorrow. Oh, erhm, I suppose some forms that let people actually, you know, SUBMIT links, might be useful too, I guess. ^^;; If all goes well, though, the section should be ready for the beta-testers to explore within a few days.

*YAWN* Man, am I sleepy.

Okay, so I shouldn't have picked yellow for the title, and I just noticed it says 900 posts instead of 9000. Still, all in all, not half bad.

Behold teh pretty! )

Yes, that is an actual printed business card. I am now the proud temporary owner of a small box of them.

I am INSANE.

I'm also still awake when I have to get up in five hours. Again with the INSANE.
dejana: (Out to Sea)
Sorry I haven't updated for a while, this month's been a busy one with preparing for Anime North and all. I've been spending most of my spare moments working on my music for J-Star. My final song list is:

1. Saeko Chiba - Sayonara Solitia
2. Peach Hips - Tuxedo Mirage
3. Do As Infinity - Shinjitsu no Uta

I'm almost done memorizing the second two because I've liked those songs for ages, but the first one is a new one I've had to start from scratch on, so it's gonna be a pretty close call. Only three more weeks... @_@

Hey, if anyone's got any road trip tips to share, please speak up.

Beyond that, the only news I have is that so far my new laptop seems to be working, so I've started a new AMV (although my attempts at ripping the footage directly from the DVDs have resulted in some obnoxious lines every time something moves), and dotmoon.net is officially open to one and all. Come and join us if you haven't already. Oh, and I'm really lightheaded tonight and I don't know why.

I'm too lazy to do that "six weird things" meme (ha! Isn't that fitting??) so I did this one instead:

Your Deadly Sins
Sloth: 80%
Envy: 60%
Wrath: 60%
Pride: 40%
Gluttony: 20%
Greed: 20%
Lust: 0%
Chance You'll Go to Hell: 40%
You will get bugs, because you're too lazy to shoo them off. And then you'll die.
dejana: (Goddess)
As it turned out, I did have a bit of spare time after all.

Tonight I:
-Added all the requested new characters to the .moon system
-Added the submitted fandom summaries to the .moon listing
-Caught up on [livejournal.com profile] genre_challenge
-Played around with [livejournal.com profile] genre_challenge and got it more organized and nice-looking

Next up:
-Add the requested new fandoms to the .moon system
-Catch up on [livejournal.com profile] sm_monthly
-Start the discussion thread for new fics on .moon

I'm also out of queued-up one-shots. I need to finish something quick, or I'll break this nice pattern I've had going.

Whew, I'm tired. One more hour until I'm out of here.
dejana: (Happy Chase)
I hate the radio.

If you haven't guessed, I'm back from my monthly journey up north. I'd write about my boring hometown adventures but I know nobody really wants to read about that kind of thing, so how about a brief summary of the high points? I got to hang out with a couple of friends I rarely see, so that was a bit of extra fun, and my mom and I went to "Fun With Dick and Jane," which turned out to be a pretty good movie. I was quite amused by the beginning of the credits.

I got my taxes done in a rare moment of productivity, and I'm getting an amazing refund that will pay off three of my four bad debts, so I drove home last night feeling happier than I'd felt in a long time. There's something uniquely pleasant about just sitting back and waiting for guaranteed money to arrive. Woo, taxes! After two years, I'm finally peering over the edge of the hole I dug myself into in college. As soon as I get these debts taken care of I can finally start saving for the laptop I really want. I felt so good yesterday I decided I might actually start getting some regular exercise again, starting Wednesday when I'm done with these three day shifts.

Too bad I didn't get to sleep until midnight, and had to get up at 4:00 AM today. Ugh. I've been remarkably alert today, considering, but I'm looking forward to getting home in two hours and going straight to bed.

I'm still getting nowhere on this side story that I've decided must be the next thing I post. It's becoming a major block in the pipeline. x_x

Other To-Do's for this weekend:
-Create the theme specs thread (.moon)
-Design and begin building the Marketplace (.moon)

You know what sucks about this new subdomain B.S. here on LJ? Because of the hotlink protection I'm using on my web space, my mood theme is now going to be broken image links on everyone's friends page. With the old URLs I could just allow livejournal.com, problem solved, but now everyone's on their own domain, so no dice. Grr.
dejana: (Goddess)
You know it's bad when you'd rather sit still and stare emptily into space than put your fingers back on the keys to finish another sentence of a story.

The other day, though, I did finish the second scene of AAO12. Seven pages now.

dotmoon.net is doing extremely well. After only a week I'm up to 49 members, half of the limit for Gamma Stage. There's already more to catch up on there when I get online than on ASMR. Feel free to join us if you haven't already. The New Stories page for next week is going to be immense. And it contains a new short story by Lord Chaos. :3

It's taking all my willpower not to advertise the site on all the infinite corners of the internets, but I think it would be wise to wait until Gamma Stage is over before doing that.

There's not much else new in me-land. I've just been working my usual schedule and focusing on .moon, fixing bugs and keeping an eye on the forums and stuff. Doing a little writing here and there when I can dredge up the motivation.

For those of you who care about such things, "Misconception" won second place in SMFanfiction.net's "Fanfic of the Year" awards for 2004.
dejana: (Wolfwood)
It's open.

dotmoon.net

Something I should say... I don't want to see any posts about .moon on ASMR. If you want to invite friends privately, that's great, I'd love it if you would. But I don't want to be one of those people who puts up a thread in JPC2 advertising their (generally lame-ass) board. I don't want to be one of those people who looks like a jerk who's trying to steal members from ASMR. I just don't want to see any public posts about it. Okay?

Welcome to my piece of the internets. ^^
dejana: (Believe - You Can Do It)
Aaaand I'm back. Again. From my hometown. Again.

The post-holidays up north were pretty good. I did some visiting of relatives and some celebrating of birthdays. It was a bit melancholy though because, where once were large gatherings, now are small groups. I did get a nice bag from my grandparents that is now coming to work with me in place of my backpack. I thought my AAO notebook would be too big for it, but no! It fits! AND my purse fits in there. This is some bag. o.o

Unfortunately I stayed up way too late all week, so last night I couldn't fall asleep until midnight. I designed my dream house in my head last night while lying in bed. And I had to get up at 4 AM for work today. Ugh. I am so tired, you have no idea. It's going to be a long few days until Wednesday evening when my five nights off start. And then it's .moon release time.

Since the opening of .moon is looming, I think it's time to clear up a few things regarding what .moon is and isn't.

1) .moon is not "The Anarchists' ASMR." It has rules, and they will be enforced, universally. I don't care if you're a BNF or a beta-tester or a chat buddy or my bestest bestest friend. If you break the rules, you will be justly punished. And many of the rules were decided by the consensus of the beta-testing team, so if you have a problem with the rules, feel free to tell me, but I'm not likely to change them.

2) .moon is not a new fanfiction.net. As far as the Library is concerned, there is some measure of quality control in place. Writing of all skill levels will be accepted, but proper use of the English language is required. There are also some general rules in place regarding what may and may not be submitted by whom.

3) .moon is not "hiring." I'm not going to set up a hundred moderators on day one. Moderators will be chosen when an obvious need for them arises, and for the most part they will be privately invited to join the staff when that time comes. Don't bother asking to be one.

4) .moon is all-fandoms. Really all-fandoms. "Rainbow Brite" may end up on there next to "A Christmas Carol." I originally envisioned the site as a Sailormoon community, but it's not that anymore. So you can submit work from any fandom you may be involved in, and it will all be on equal ground here. There are filters available in the Library and Gallery if you're interested in only one fandom.

5) .moon is primarily a fanfiction/fanart site. Original work is accepted, but .moon is designed primarily as a fanfiction community, with the artwork gallery thrown in for flavor. It has no online-family forums or role-playing forums, and I'm not planning on having any, at least at first.

5) .moon is a (permanent?) work-in-progress. I have a long list of projects and components I plan on adding to the site, so don't be expecting the whole nine yards at first. I've built a lot, but there's still a long way to go and lots more fun to be had with this. Small moves until we get rolling.

For those of you planning on staying up Thursday night for the opening (o_O), my time zone is Central Standard Time. I wasn't planning on opening the place right at midnight, but since some of you are staying up for it (again, o_O), why not? It'll open around 12 AM CST Thursday night/Friday morning. See you then.

Hey, folks!

With only one essential major task and a handful of minor tasks left to go, I've set an official date for the end of the beta-testing stage!

On Friday, January 6, the beta-testing password will be removed and visitors to .moon will be able to freely browse the site and register as members.

I'm totally excited! I hope to see a bunch of you there! ^^

.moon development plan

1) Alpha Stage: Construction
    Only Dejana has full access.
2) Beta Stage: Testing
The selected 10 beta-testers have full access.
3) Gamma Stage: Limited Release
The first 100 people to register have full access.
    Begins January 6, 2006!
4) Delta Stage: Full Release
    Open to whoever comes along.
dejana: (Wolfwood)
I suppose I should make one of these since it's been a while.

Beta stage is going very well so far. I'd say more but the next shift will be in any minute.

Tonight I added optional fandom filters and summary previews to the Library and Gallery, and added "View this member's stories/artwork" links to the member profiles that search out and display their stuff. Other than that, these past few weeks have been mainly theme-making and board-tweaking, and bug-fixing as the betas find them.

Still no estimate on when the site will be open, as I have a couple of big add-ons left to build and integrate.

It's so weird not to be friend-locking this entry.

I have an announcement to make.

I've built my own writing and artwork community.

This was a project probably about a year in the making and is what has been sucking up the majority of my free time since I stopped writing. It's something I'd been thinking about doing for a long time before I finally decided to proceed last March, and even so, it was only recently that I resolved to go with this 100% and see where it takes me.

In March of 2005 I started with an open-source message board, bought some books on PHP and MySQL, and went to work. In addition to the forums the site now includes a library for fanfiction or original work and a gallery for fanart or original art, both complete with reviewing and updating functions, among other things. I cheated and used a pre-made forum system but the library and gallery were created completely from scratch, moderating queues and all.

After six months of work the site is finally complete and I'm about to enter the fandom community fray. The place is currently in beta stage, and will remain so while I work out the remaining bugs and add a few more features, but before too long it will be open to the public.

dotmoon.net

During beta stage you will be prompted for a password if you try to proceed past the splash page; the site is not yet ready for general visitors. It's active and running and on its permanent URL now, however, so I decided it was time to stop keeping the project under wraps. I have also unlocked the hidden status report entries I had been making in this LJ for those who were in on the plan; if you go back through my journal history you will find them.

As for why I'm doing this, well, sometimes you have to stop hoping for change and just do the whole damn thing yourself. I'll leave it at that.

To my beta-testers who may be reading this, thank you so much for your help so far, and please keep it up. New threads are being posted asking for your input every couple of days or so and some of them still have no replies, please comment! Your input is priceless during this stage!

Thank you all. There's still a long road ahead but I have high hopes for .moon.
dejana: (Wolfwood)
I just finished performing the first-ever weekly update on .moon. The "New" functions are now confirmed to be working properly and the Library and Gallery now contain real entries. Everything is working, and it's beautiful! Some of the annoying little things that I couldn't get to work suddenly started working all by themselves! All the essential pieces are complete! The thing is actually DONE, and WORKING, and ON TIME!

I am SO EXCITED I could just EXPLODE!!!

Now, beta stage begins tomorrow, unfortunately I have to work and I can't be on AIM to contact everyone directly, so:

If I have asked you to be a beta-tester, and you still want to do it, comment on this entry and I will provide you with the password needed to access the site.

If I have NOT asked you to beta-test, and you would like to, comment on this entry also. If I end up with open spots I will turn to you guys to fill up the team.

I'll be working tomorrow but I will be signed into .moon for most of the day, so when you beta-testers get in you can get my attention through the shoutbox or boards there. See you all soon! :D

Everything I've built so far, plus a little extra, is now installed at dotmoon.net. The default theme is still the pink one, and will be until I get the new default artwork from Kelly. I've also discovered that I suck at making themes. Please make me some new ones, guys. -_-;;

Beta stage begins Monday. I only have a handful of little things left to add before then, and I can now add them all directly to the live site. I can't believe this is actually becoming a reality. It was a distant dream for so long, and now it's almost here. I'm so grateful to everyone who has encouraged me over the past six months. I never would've accomplished all this without your support. Thanks, guys. ^^

Now let's hope it doesn't flop. xD

Moving Days Progress Report II

12:25 AM - Finished adding basic SenGen theme.

12:55 AM - Password-protected site and installed database query sender.

2:00 AM - Finished adding customized fields and tables to the database.

2:30 AM - Finished uploading library and gallery source images.

3:30 AM - Finished converting and uploading custom-built files. The Library and Gallery are now installed. My god, what a tedious process! I've now learned the merits of programming functions instead of making new files. x_x

4:20 AM - Added custom links to user profile page and tweaked the colors of the SenGen theme to make things a bit more readable.

5:30 AM - Finished testing the Library, all seems to be working there.

6:30 AM - Finished testing the Gallery. All systems go. Installed a redirect script for the storage directories.

Next Up

-Create custom error pages, particularly error 401
dejana: (Wolfwood)
I lost this once already so I'm going to post it and edit in further updates.

Moving Days Progress Report

7:45 AM - Process start.

9:20 AM - Finished applying basic customizations to SMF forum.

10:20 AM - Finished copying the RoseMoon site theme over to the new forum.

10:40 AM - Added shoutbox and cleared out old shouts.

10:45 AM - Test thread OK.

Breaking for sleep, I worked the night shift last night.

Next Up

-Finish and add SenGen theme

-Add customized fields and tables to the database

-Research making user-selected themes universal

-Convert and upload custom-built files
dejana: (Wolfwood)
I'M DONE! ALL THE ESSENTIAL TASKS ARE DONE! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

:D :D :D :D :D

Of course, there's still a lot to be done, but everything that HAD to be finished prior to beta stage is FINISHED! HURRAH!

I do have a few things to tweak prior to moving:

-Gotta make moon-arrows for the reordering functions and navigation functions, I need my home computer and Photoshop to do that.
-I decided to change the library to automatically number text files straight out instead of doing the number-code thing it had been doing.
-Gotta copy some functions over from the Library to the Gallery.

But essentially, it is DONE, in a purely functional sense. Party on!

By the way, Sokudo, we had a thunderstorm. Batten down the hatches. ;P

This will be short because I'm so tired that my legs ache.

So I got paid and I bought the hosting account for the site. There, it's done. We're locked in now. I'm using Dreamhost, and I bought the smallest cheapest plan for now because I don't know yet if this will succeed and there's no reason to waste a bunch of cash up front on high hopes. I also set the nameservers on the dotmoon.net domain. Just waiting for the change to propagate and whatever, and then I'll get some kind of index page up so we can see it's a live address.

I created and tested the Recommend This Story function tonight, so that's good to go.

Remaining Alpha Stage tasks:

-Create functionality for rearranging the order of existing chapters/images.
-Add navigational links to chapter/image pages.

Moving days September 27-29. By the way, these entries will be unlocked once the beta stage begins, as .moon won't be a secret anymore at that point and I'll want people to be able to see the progress reports.

Aaaand I just cracked my badge holder. Lovely. -_-

EDIT 6:00 AM: IT LIVES! :D

And happy fun time begins!
dejana: (Wolfwood)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I built the chapter-editing functions tonight, and it works like a dream! Writers will have the option of uploading a replacement file or, unless you're using ASMR-style files, editing the existing text in a text box. I know this doesn't sound like much since everybody has these functions, but I just built mine from scratch and I thought it would be MUCH more difficult than it turned out to be.

I also set the story and art summary pages to display previews of the most recent three reviews, fixed the Add Chapter function so it automatically assigns the next chapter number, and fixed the Delete functions so they delete the actual files from the server as well as the info from the database.

I now have only three, count 'em, THREE essential tasks left to complete, and the rest of the week to complete them in! And just for the heck of it, here they are!

-Create functionality for rearranging the order of existing chapters/images.
-Add the Recommend This Story function.
-Add navigational links to chapter/image pages.

My excitement for this project has been renewed! At the beginning of the week I was worried because it felt like I still had a lot to do, but now I'm totally pumped! Friday is hosting purchase day, and then it's just a few short days until moving day! Finally, dotmoon.net will show something more interesting than a GoDaddy domain parking page. ;D

Less than two weeks until Beta Stage begins, people! I can't believe it! XD
