You live, you learn.

I have an announcement to make.
I've built my own writing and artwork community.
This was a project probably about a year in the making and is what has been sucking up the majority of my free time since I stopped writing. It's something I'd been thinking about doing for a long time before I finally decided to proceed last March, and even so, it was only recently that I resolved to go with this 100% and see where it takes me.
In March of 2005 I started with an open-source message board, bought some books on PHP and MySQL, and went to work. In addition to the forums the site now includes a library for fanfiction or original work and a gallery for fanart or original art, both complete with reviewing and updating functions, among other things. I cheated and used a pre-made forum system but the library and gallery were created completely from scratch, moderating queues and all.
After six months of work the site is finally complete and I'm about to enter the fandom community fray. The place is currently in beta stage, and will remain so while I work out the remaining bugs and add a few more features, but before too long it will be open to the public.

During beta stage you will be prompted for a password if you try to proceed past the splash page; the site is not yet ready for general visitors. It's active and running and on its permanent URL now, however, so I decided it was time to stop keeping the project under wraps. I have also unlocked the hidden status report entries I had been making in this LJ for those who were in on the plan; if you go back through my journal history you will find them.
As for why I'm doing this, well, sometimes you have to stop hoping for change and just do the whole damn thing yourself. I'll leave it at that.
To my beta-testers who may be reading this, thank you so much for your help so far, and please keep it up. New threads are being posted asking for your input every couple of days or so and some of them still have no replies, please comment! Your input is priceless during this stage!
Thank you all. There's still a long road ahead but I have high hopes for .moon.
