Remember the drabble contest I was running at Anime Detour? Well, after carrying it around in my purse for months, I finally typed up the exhibition entry I wrote and submitted it to .moon. And since I've decided to start posting my writing here too, here it is.

(Reminder: Entries had to be exactly 100 words and related to the given prompt, which was a lantern.)

Light of Hope

Sailor Mercury dug her hands into a pile of broken masonry. It wasn't supposed to end like this. The city was in ruins, a shattered graveyard where nothing moved. They had fought so hard, and won, but at what cost?

A brave flicker in the distance caught Mercury's eye. Amid the desolation, the small orange glow of a lantern was shining. Someone was alive.

The light was joined by others. A flashlight. A mobile phone. A burning branch. The gathering lights spread until the broken city mirrored the starry sky above.

Relief swelled up like a river. Tokyo had survived.

While I have your attention... I don't suppose any of the locals on my flist are planning to see HP: OOTP next week? >.> ETA: Heh, I don't suppose any of the locals on my flist will be around to read this, since it's CONvergence weekend (and me stuck at work again ;_;). Ah well.

I just decided last night I want to see it xD

And I'd love to see it with anyone, but there isn't even anyone within driving distance that I know of except my sister and her friend. :|

I have an idea. I will give you my phone number, or you could give me yours and we can go and see it together over the phone. Act like we were there and everything.

I've done this with a friend of mine who lives in Jacksonville and it was surprisingly successful. I didn't even get anyone complaining about my phone...it didn't light up and we didn't get disconnected once.

It was the first and only movie I've ever been to see by myself...the phone made me brave ^^;

That is a really creative idea. Unfortunately I don't think I'd have the guts to do it... it's bound to be a really full theater and someone will notice me on the phone and bitch at me. :| For a less popular movie where I'd be in a row to myself or something, I'd probably do it, but for this one I think I'm going to have to pass.

(besides, it would be tough to line things up, even if the movies started around the same time... "GASP!" "What, wha- GASP!" heehee)

Thanks so much for offering, though! ^^

I'm actually pondering the feasibility of driving down there to see it with you. What is wrong with me??

I suppose it's more likely to be manga canon, since I wasn't thinking of the freeze, but I didn't really have any specific canon in mind. But yes, it's about whatever fight triggers the creation of Crystal Tokyo. I've always believed the transition was sparked by some large-scale war.
