The better part of me.

Remember the drabble contest I was running at Anime Detour? Well, after carrying it around in my purse for months, I finally typed up the exhibition entry I wrote and submitted it to .moon. And since I've decided to start posting my writing here too, here it is.
(Reminder: Entries had to be exactly 100 words and related to the given prompt, which was a lantern.)
Light of Hope
Sailor Mercury dug her hands into a pile of broken masonry. It wasn't supposed to end like this. The city was in ruins, a shattered graveyard where nothing moved. They had fought so hard, and won, but at what cost?
A brave flicker in the distance caught Mercury's eye. Amid the desolation, the small orange glow of a lantern was shining. Someone was alive.
The light was joined by others. A flashlight. A mobile phone. A burning branch. The gathering lights spread until the broken city mirrored the starry sky above.
Relief swelled up like a river. Tokyo had survived.
While I have your attention... I don't suppose any of the locals on my flist are planning to see HP: OOTP next week? >.> ETA: Heh, I don't suppose any of the locals on my flist will be around to read this, since it's CONvergence weekend (and me stuck at work again ;_;). Ah well.
