It's all a lot of oysters but no pearls.

.moon AND its host are having trouble again.
Anyone got a good stable web host you can recommend? I've had just about enough of this crap.
EDIT: It's back up now, but still. The irritation, it burns.

Date: Jul. 23rd, 2006 01:00 am (UTC)My dad uses BlueHost and likes it alot. You gotta do a one year contract type thing though, and I know I can't afford that, but if I could I would.

Date: Jul. 23rd, 2006 04:43 am (UTC)Three years ago Groklaw went through three hosts real quick, like in about three months: Pamela Jones' site kept getting slashdotted as interest in the SCOX vs. IBM and rest of known world got more interesting and intense. Each host was able to handle the volume that crashed the earlier host. Her current host seems to be pretty good albeit not perfect, but it's dedicated to Open Source software advocacy sites.
For stability, stick to the LAMP stack: Linux, Apache, MySQL and either PHP or Perl. Avoid Microsoft hosting solutions at all costs, they're both more easily hacked and more unstable, aside from the software licencing costs that LAMP just doesn't have.
"Slashdotting" or "The Slashdot Effect": When your site is mentioned on Slashdot.org, resulting in a sudden increase in traffic.
