And now back to your regularly-scheduled (but overdue as usual) programming...

Saturday

Saturday was another late start, partly due to a minor medical crisis (I need to see a doctor, I know -_-). It was afternoon again when we got to the con. And THEN, when we finally got there, it was a nightmare trying to find a place to park. We drove around for probably half an hour before we finally got lucky and found a space. And that was with illegal parking going on left and right by the people who'd gotten tired of circling before us. It was crazy. They had golf carts shuttling people from their cars to the convention center.

When we finally got in, we'd missed the karate panel [livejournal.com profile] shel_b_129 wanted to see. :( We had nothing else to do, so I convinced the girls to give another Photoshop panel a try. This one was being run by one of the guests, a voice actor and graphic artist.

Before the panel... at least... I hope we weren't doing this during the panel... >.>

The presenter was Doug Smith, I believe he does artwork for multiple conventions. He was using a tablet, which I'm now tempted to get upon learning they can recognize different levels of pressure.

Meet Sven, the Swedish Viking. xD

Sven was drawn entirely over the course of the panel.

Afterwards we stuck around for the AMV Critique panel, which I had been too chicken to bring any of my own work for. I ended up wishing I had, as the videos attendees gave the panelists to critique were incomplete and VERY rough. As a result, the advice being given was so basic that we didn't stay long.

I don't remember what we did after that, but eventually we ended up in line for the skit portion of the cosplay contest. Normally I'd skip it, or at least not bother waiting in line, but since [livejournal.com profile] nephthysmoon and [livejournal.com profile] shel_b_129 had never been to a con before we did Linecon for great justice to make sure we got good seats. While we were waiting, a Link cosplayer came out of the green room and started offering pocky to everyone in line. After a few minutes, an Apollo Justice (I believe) came out looking for the Link, and gave us his business card. I thought they were just goofing around, but it turned out that was actually groundwork for their skit...

The setup for AFO's contest was kind of weird. They has the voice actor guests judging, and they would give their scores immediately following each act, so the skits weren't really compared to each other evenly. Also, although they had side screens set up, they used them to display the scoreboard instead of showing the skits, so it was hard to see anything going on below waist-level on the stage. There were some good skits, though. Unfortunately, the announcers were of the type who try to act cool and end up looking like idiots. >.> At least, I thought so. The crowd up front was eating it up, so I assume they have a history.

One of the skits featured the very talented costumer [livejournal.com profile] nessabutterfly and her friends! :D

The skit was very funny, despite my initial dread (Sailormoon + Spice Girls = ???), but they got a pretty raw deal from the judges. :\ Again I think it had something to do with the skits being rated individually as they went instead of being compared to each other at the end.

The skit I alluded to earlier was a court case where Link was put on trial for dealing pocky and getting people addicted to the stuff, Kenshin being among them. It was pretty clever, but it didn't get a top rating. As I recall it kind of petered out at the end - and the judges rated it lower because they didn't know the source material. :|

When it was all over, I caught [livejournal.com profile] nessabutterfly and got some close-up pictures. :D

Afterwards she wanted me to be in a picture with her and her group, which I felt kind of weird about since I wasn't in costume ^^;; but it was still fun and flattering. :)

Then it was time for a dinner break. [livejournal.com profile] nephthysmoon and [livejournal.com profile] shel_b_129 and I went down the street to TGI Friday's. Yummy. :D While we were there, we got started on what I'd like to make the new MoonCon tradition - a crackfic round robin. xD Much easier than trying to write drabbles independently (*apologizes profusely to [livejournal.com profile] jasonulloa and [livejournal.com profile] vayleen* ^^;;;;).

Crazy angle me and Shel!

Unfortunately, by the time we finished dinner we'd missed the Who's Line Is It Anime? panel [livejournal.com profile] nephthysmoon had wanted to go to, and Evil Jeopardy (all questions must be answered in the form of a threat!) was too packed to get into. Soooo we wandered around and worked on the round robin until 10:30, when we went to the Internet Shenanigans panel just for kicks. That was just a bunch of humorous videos from the internet, many of which weren't quite as funny as the panel organizers thought they were, but there was enough fun in there to make it worth the hour. Then we went to the Fakedub Insanity panel, where we found an amusing plea on the screen targeted toward anyone who was coming in from the rave.

Projector Guy continued to bring the funny for much of the dead space during the panel, when there wasn't video running on the screen.

Unfortunately... he was pretty much the funniest part of the panel. :\ It was being run by a group that apparently does lots of fakedub parodies, but it's all improv, which is naturally very hit-and-miss. They showed a couple of pre-recorded parodies, and then did some live ones, but like the Internet Shenanigans panel it was a handful of hilarity interspersed with stretches of "meh." Plus, they seemed surprised when the audience wanted to hear their work instead of doing some improv of their own. If you're touting your group's work, guys, of course we're going to want to see it. -_- We didn't stay for the whole thing.

It was after midnight at that point, so that wrapped it up for Saturday.

Sunday

Sunday we got to the con in time for most of the craftsmanship part of the costume contest. This part seemed better organized, as I believe the costumes were judged up-close in advance. [livejournal.com profile] nessabutterfly was one of the judges. ^^ We were pretty far away for pictures, but I tried.

I had to chase this girl down afterwards to get a proper picture for [livejournal.com profile] mechaboydos, because I herd he lieks mudkipz. ;)

When that was over, we made our final run through the artist's alley and dealer's room, and then went back to Main Programming for the AMV contest. Which was LAST THING SUNDAY, right before Closing Ceremonies. WTF. It seemed to be pretty well-attended, though. I suppose with the cosplay workmanship judging on Sunday, more people hang around.

"Cold Hearts" was in there (which I STILL haven't encoded for the internets ^^;;) in Drama... under my real name. UGH. I had given them my handle, but they put all the videos up under the creator's real name. I can understand requiring everyone's real name, but displaying it to the whole con... people are going to go on YouTube later and look up those videos. If someone gives you a pseudonym, use it. -_-

Anyway, so I was in the contest. I didn't win anything, but I wasn't expecting to, it was a drama/romance video to a slow acoustic song with nothing flashy in it. Nobody talked or walked out during my video, so I count that as enough of a success. :)

And that was about it for Anime Festival Orlando. All in all, it was a nice little con. The staff seemed organized and the attendees seemed friendly, if I wasn't too shy to talk to strangers. >.> I had a good time. ^^

At some point on Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] nephthysmoon had to go outside for a bit to poison herself.

And that was where she got The Phone Call of DOOM. She checked in with her husband, and guess what? A potential hurricane was on the way! Hooray! So that caused a bit of extra concern that was to plague us for the rest of the trip... but at the moment, it wasn't an enormous problem, and there wasn't anything we could do about it, so we went on with our plans.

More pics from the con!

Oh, I almost forgot! Swag!

I bought mostly small stuff this time. Lego-like Trigun figures! Cell phone charms! Longcat keychain! Mercury and Jupiter magnets! Mini-Kirby! The little bottle of blue stuff was a gift from Kasey and Shel. ^^

A nice piece of Starlights artwork from the AA, and some stickers from that booth with all the SM stuff.

Mei! :D She's kind of funny-looking >.> but my sister's been wanting a Mei toy for ages, and this is the only one I've ever seen, since Ghibli generally only puts out toys of the creatures they create. Upon further examination, I'm pretty sure this is a bootleg. :\ When I saw it was Mei, though, I had to get it, my sister's been wanting one so badly.

She does have two pigtails, but the other one sits under her hat (which is removable, as is her bag).

I also got a cute Bleach print from the AA, but I forgot to include that in the pictures.

AFO was over, but MiniMoonCon continued! :D

After leaving the con, we headed east to the Atlantic Ocean and the beach! I'd seen the ocean before, but only from an airplane, or in the form of bays and harbors. I'd never actually been to the seashore. So [livejournal.com profile] nephthysmoon and [livejournal.com profile] shel_b_129 generously took me there. ^^ When we got to the city on the coast (I forget the name), we stopped for dinner at an IHOP, where we worked on the round robin some more. Cell phone camera evidence!

[livejournal.com profile] shel_b_129 was still wearing her cat ears from the con, hee.

We had an energetic waitress who told us an abundance of corny jokes. She might have been a bit too energetic, as soon after we arrived I witnessed a lady from a party who was leaving come back to their table to take back the tip they had left. >( So [livejournal.com profile] shel_b_129 leaned over and put some of her own money down in its place. Take that, bitches. >)

It was getting late when we finally made it to the beach, but there was still some daylight left. Yay, ocean!

And Shel! :D

A Shel on the beach... if I took her home, could I hear the ocean? >.> /lame

So, I finally got to swim in the ocean. You know, you always hear about the smell of the ocean in writing and stuff, but I didn't notice any smell at all. I tried to smell it, but there was just... nothing. The salt was the real shocker. Duh, salt water, I know, but I wasn't expecting it to be that salty. If your face got splashed, it was like you'd licked a salt shaker. Holy crap.

Plus, there's an annoying abundance of hazards. You can't go out too far, because there are things that will eat you. There's stuff on the bottom that will stab you or sting you. I got some claws or something stuck in my toe at some point. Swimming in the ocean is a pain in the butt. :P It's lame, but... give me the Great Lakes any day. >.> The ocean's warmer (I LOLed at the girls for complaining it was cold), and the sand's a bit finer, but I gotta admit I prefer Lake Superior. ^^; Lots of people told me it's really not all that different, but I wanted to experience it for myself, and I'm glad I did - even if they were right. xD

It got dark before too long, so we headed back to [livejournal.com profile] shel_b_129's for the night. But the adventure wasn't over yet! More later. :D

You've never been to the ocean before?? Hahaha, yeah.... lakes are gonna seem wayyy better. :P At least you didn't go to the Jersey shore. Ugh suck. (I remember going to Cape May there as a kid and the ocean was brown. BROWN. WTF DUDES.)

The Atlantic has nice beaches and all, but I don't like swimming there as much as the Pacific. The ocean in California or Hawaii is amaaaaaaazing (yay warm!).

So, that first picture....yeah, totally DURING the panel. It made it all the more amusing. Don't lie! <3

The pic of me in the swimsuit isn't bad....I'm horribly pale, but anyone who wasn't expected that is an idiot since I warned all. >_>

I totally have those magnets! I actually have the whole Inners + Moon set. You can also get the kitties and Sailor Luna, but I'll avoid that little bitch like the plague.
