Okay, I've decided on a timetable for getting .moon from Alpha Stage to Beta Stage. I'm doing some overtime this week; when I get paid for that, I should be able to afford a hosting plan for the site (unless something goes horribly wrong and I need cash). I should be able to finish the last nine pre-move tasks by then.

Friday, Sept. 23: Get paid, purchase hosting plan. Give it a couple days for all the setup to go through. (I'll have work anyway.)

Tuesday, Sept. 27 - Thursday, Sept. 29: Moving days. (These are those days when I stay up all night long and into the morning so I can get back to day shifts.) Database will have to be reconstructed, SMF reinstalled and tweaked, and custom-built pages copied over and modified.

Thursday, Sept. 30 - Sunday, Oct. 2: Construct the weekly update module and perform the first weekly update to make sure story and art submissions are working properly. I will be using my own submissions as a test. (Yes, .moon will be using a weekly update system instead of constant rolling updates. It's a personal preference. :P)

Monday, Oct. 3 - Beta Stage begins. Beta-testers will be given access at this time. There will be plenty of tweaking going on during this stage, not only from the betas' suggestions; I will be starting out with quite a to-do list as well, but these things can be done with users on the site.

Whee! We have dates! :D
Kelly, how 'bout that art? :P

.moon development plan

1) Alpha Stage: Construction
    Only Dejana has full access.
2) Beta Stage: Testing
    *Begins October 3*
The selected 10 beta-testers have full access.
3) Gamma Stage: Limited Release
The first 100 people to register have full access.
4) Delta Stage: Full Release
    Open to whoever comes along.

Today I programmed the functions that allow you to reply to reviews either right on the page or in a PM, and the functions that allow people to report submissions that are breaking the rules. Reported stories will be investigated by the moderators, and if they agree there's a problem, the system will send me a PM. This will allow me to only have new submissions moderated (extra chapters, for example, will get a free pass) without having to worry too much about people adding a hentai chapter to a G-rated fic or something. These functions have been added to both the library and the gallery.

Nine essential functions to go before moving day...although I'm still not sure how I'm going to afford the new hosting plan right now. x_x

After a brief personal crisis, I've decided not to give up on .moon. This project will go forward, and I'll be giving it at least a year to sink or swim before I'll even consider throwing in the towel again.

Tonight I added functionality for writers to request new fandoms and new characters to be added to the fandom categories. I'll have to add these things to the system manually once I receive the requests, but I can handle that. These functions will be copied to the artwork side of the site as soon as I have the time.

Eleven essential tasks to go before I move the site to its own domain. That step, however, may be longer in coming than necessary being that I'll have to buy a hosting plan at that time. I really wanted to jump on this Dreamhost sale that's going on, but I can't afford it right now. And the renewal of my own domain is coming up soon, too. Such is life. -_-;;

I'm mainly putting this together for Kelleh, who's designing the default theme for .moon, but I'm posting it here in my journal (in-crowd locked of course) in case any of the rest of you want to create a theme. And for future reference as well.

It'll be lengthy, so...

cutting )

There you have it! Finished!

And damn, it's a lot of work. @_@ Kelleh, if this is too much, you can just make a big layout image and I can do the slicing and color choosing and stuff if you'd rather not mess with it. I didn't realize how insanely detailed something like this is, since I did it bit by bit. ^^;;

Today I figured out how to make the system send automatic PMs to members. Authors and artists will get PM notifications when their stuff is accepted, declined, or reviewed.

I only have 12 essential tasks left to program for both the Library and the Gallery before allowing people to sign up. There's some more components I'm going to be building during the beta-testing stage, but only this dozen left that must be done during the alpha stage. Not bad considering I started with six full pages of tasks on this To-Do list.

I think I'm in denial. The thing's almost done. I just can't believe it. I wonder if I can get it running by my birthday. That would be kind of cool. ^^

By the way, this is the overall development plan:

1) Alpha Stage: Construction
    Only Dejana has full access.
2) Beta Stage: Testing
The selected 10 beta-testers have full access.
3) Gamma Stage: Limited Release
The first 100 random visitors who register have full access.
4) Delta Stage: Full Release
    Open to whoever comes along.

At the moment, we are about 75% through the Alpha stage.

The Gallery is now just as finished as the Library is. The Alpha stage of development is half done. All I need to do is build myself a weekly update page, and .moon will be ready to move out of my testing area to its real URL.

Wow. I can't believe this thing's almost ready for members.

I've decided to start posting status reports on the construction of .moon. If you're seeing this entry, you're in a special friends group I've set up to be able to view these posts. I'd still like to keep this project a secret for the time being, so please, don't share these entries with anyone. Thank you all for keeping .moon a secret so far! These protected entries will be made public once .moon is open for "business."

That being said...

I'm blasting through the construction of the artwork gallery at 100 mph. It's been simpler than I thought to just plug in the art variables into the existing library pages! It's been working like a dream! In only two nights, I've built the whole Gallery structure and the entire art submission process. All I need is a few more hours to convert the author options pages into artist options pages, and it'll be good to go!

I've even saved myself a step that was going to be future research, as it turned out it's easier to make the site automatically create thumbnails than to check the size of an uploaded image. O.o Weird, but good, since it makes thumbnails automatically now. There's a hassle avoided. ^^

The Library isn't quite done yet, there are a few little features here and there I still need to write, but once they're working it'll be a cinch to copy them over to the Gallery as well. And then the three key components of .moon will be done! The Library took so long, I never imagined the Gallery would be done in three days. o_o At this rate, we may be ready to roll by the end of the summer.

After the Gallery I need to create a weekly update page for my own use, and then it'll be time to create the main page. Kelleh, still willing to create the main page and default theme art? I'll be needing it soon... ^.~

I think I’ve just made my first moderator enemy. And strangely, I don’t care. There’s been a lot of stuff going down lately that I take issue with, but I won’t discuss it here. The only reason this is hitting my blog is I’m at work and can’t chat on AIM about it. XD

Time to sit back and watch the inevitable wave of ass-kissing. Time really is a circle, isn’t it?

Wow, my blog entries seem to be getting shorter and shorter lately. I should write about something else. Let’s see.

I’m definately flying to Otakon instead of driving. The Fic Bitch bailed me out on the vanishing-group thing, so I’m saved as far as housing goes. :D Unfortunately I don’t have time for my Milly cosplay anymore (and no way in hell am I going to try to get the stungun on a plane) so I’ll probably just be plain old me. Plus, I didn’t get into Otaku Idol. At this point though I’m glad to be going at all. Still no motivation to write, so I don’t know if the AAO side story plan is going to go through or not, but we’ll see.

In other news, I finished another page of to-dos for my new website project. Only twelve more pages to go. Plus an additional section I haven’t planned out yet. -_-

Well, tonight was a colossal waste of time.

My first night off since starting shifts. I was going to work on my new website project. First I got distracted by a chatroom full of ASMRians. That was okay, except for the fact that although they waited for me to get back from the store like they promised, they all took off for the night as soon as I got back. Sigh.

Then, even though I still had time to work on the project, I got sidetracked by a well-intentioned friend and ended up meandering down a long road to NOWHERE. I know he meant well, but this was extremely frustrating, especially after the long discussion/argument that we got bogged down in in the middle. Frustrating AND annoying.

Twelve hours and I got absolutely NOTHING done. Few things are more obnoxious than this past evening.

I’m bored and dying for my day at work to be over. So here I am.

Wow, I actually FORGOT that I was revising “As In Autumn!” Wow, that’s bad. ^^;; Good thing I have my blog to remind me, even if I don’t feel like working on it at the moment.

45 minutes to go. Then I can go home and work on my big website project. This weekend’s task is Fun with Forms! Hoorah. I also have to figure out what the hell I’m going to wear to my coworker’s wedding tomorrow, and find the invitation so I know where the hell I’m going. Oh, and wrap the gift, too. At least this time I bought the stuff in advance.

Last weekend was Nina’s baby shower and I was terribly unprepared. There I was at Target buying last-minute gifts half an hour before the shower and just shoving them in a bag, when I’m practically famous for giving lovely wrapped gifts. I didn’t even have time to write in the card, so I left it out. It’s still in the back window of my car, probably getting all faded in the sun in the parking lot even right now. And I was still late to the shower. I felt like scum. What kind of a friend am I, that I couldn’t be prepared for one of the biggest events in her life? There was no excuse for that. And here I was all sad about not being closer to Nina. Like I deserve her friendship.

Anyway. Off the sad train. Wow, if anyone ever actually starts reading this blog, I’ll be pretty embarrassed. ^^;; Originally I was keeping my personal babble on another site but lately I’ve figured, what the heck. Once I get this blog upgraded (another task for this weekend) maybe I’ll start marking some entries members-only or something. Once I’m done with my new website project traffic here should be picking up considerably.

The stuff I ordered finally starting arriving, woohoo! Yay for “RENT” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” soundtracks, and pretty glass lanterns! I just need some gravel and potting soil now to finish filling up the pots on my balcony, and then I can plant some flowers and get my lanterns set up. Next week for sure if not this weekend. Today is my last normal day of my last normal week. I’m doing a couple shifts next week and a couple regular days, and then the week after that, it’s full-on shift schedule time! No more of this 9 to 5 crap, thank God. I’ll only be able to catch maybe one “Robot Chicken” a month, though, from now on. Boo.

Not that it’s going to be very helpful posting this here, but everyone, go read The Exiles. ‘Cuz it rocks.
