AB2008 was... full of problems ^^;; but fortunately none of them affected me. :D I didn't get around to writing any con reports during the con, so I'm going to attempt it all in one go.

Friday )

I've been working on this con report for three hours. @_@ I'll finish it later.

Now the best part of going to a con - THE LOOT! mwahahaa :D

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Last day of the con!

Got up at the time I'd planned, loaded up my car, checked out of the hotel, and hurried over to the convention center... only to discover that the bento box event was at 1:30, and not noon like I thought. There was some interesting stuff I'd missed at 10 AM, too. Should've looked at the schedule. -_-

So I spent an hour wandering around the dealer's room... big mistake. I spent waaaay too much in there, especially for a small con like this. I forgot to snap a picture of my loot, so I might post that tonight. I also checked out what passed for an Artist's Alley... except for one of the girls out in the hallway... who I'd promised on Saturday when I was waiting in the cosplay line that I'd check out her stuff Sunday when I wasn't burdened by my staff etc. And I didn't have time to stop by before the bento event. And when the event ended, she had packed up and gone. I felt really bad. ;_;

But I wanted to get to the bento event early as suggested so I could get a cute bento box. The previous panel was still clearing out when I got there, but I'm pretty sure I was the first person there for the bento thing. The staffer running it was a bit frazzled, since it was Sunday and all, and the convention people weren't showing up to set up tables... but I pointed out the tables were already in the room, just stacked up against the wall, and then helped set up the tables and get chairs around them. About a third of the people coming in for the event helped, but the rest of them just hung out in the back of the room chatting and, as it turned out, probably lining up to get good bento boxes. So when we finished and they started handing out the boxes, I joined half of the guys in cutting to the front of the line, something I would normally never do but there was no way I was going to get stuck at the end when I'd been there first and helped set up while everyone else was being lazy and greedy. No way. So I cut in line and didn't feel bad about it at all. >3

Then I did a selfish thing. It turned out the girl who had put up the money for the con to buy the bento supplies in advance really wanted one of the blue boxes that came with its own bag, which was the kind that I'd picked, and they'd forgotten to save one for her. So the staffer running the event had to make someone trade theirs for a pink one with no bag. She let the first person she spotted keep their blue one because it was a guy ( >( ) and then she was looking at me, but I hung on to mine for dear life. I'd paid my money like everyone else, and shown up early, and helped set up and everything, and I really really wanted that blue bento. ^^;; She got someone behind me to trade theirs instead. I did feel kind of bad about that, since the girl who lent the money for the event deserved the box of her choice, but... I really wanted it. ;_;

So anyway. The staffer told us the basics of bento lunches and went through assembling one with the ingredients on a table at the front. Then we got to go up and fill our own boxes. They were the two-layer kind, so we filled the bottom part with white rice, and the top with the basic snack things they provided like carrots and fruit slices and nuts. There were also little bottles for soy sauce, and cute plastic toothpicks and dividers. ^^ Then it was eating time! The guys at my table were admiring my apparent skill with chopsticks that I didn't know I possessed. o_O;; It was fun, I may try to make lunches with this sometimes. I friended the [livejournal.com profile] bentolunch comm here on LJ. ^^

After the bento thingy I took all my purchases and stuff out to my car, took some more pictures, and went to the con feedback session to listen in. Apparently they've somehow convinced the convention center to let them allow outside food next year, which is a miracle in itself. o.o The food restrictions is one of the major downfalls to having an event in a convention center. Their discussion of the downsides to providing a consuite gave me an idea for Detour, which I plan to suggest to our consuite department.

After that was Closing Ceremonies, with the usual fond farewells from the guests, and that was the end of Sogen. (BTW, turns out that new Kakkoi Con thing here in the Twin Cities is run by Sogen's parent organization. Didn't know that.) All in all, not a bad little con, but I think it's a bit too little for me. There were some creative events I haven't seen anywhere else, and it seemed to be good for meeting new people, but since I'm not social and didn't have any friends with me it was a bit lonely and had a lot of dead time. I don't think I'll be going again unless I'm with a group, or really have nothing else to do that weekend.

So that's my last con until spring. I still didn't meet [livejournal.com profile] serria :( And I didn't see Craig (Oklahoma) all weekend, I thought he was going to be there?

And now, pictures! )

And that was that!

Saturday was cosplay day. Fortunately nothing critical to me was going on until noon, so I didn't have to get up insanely early to get ready. This time I had new gloves of the proper length, a double-layered train, and a really basic choker, plus the new shoulder decorations on the dress. Much improved, in my opinion. :)

First on the agenda was the MST3K event. At Sogen it was some of the voice actor guests doing the commentary, namely Chris and Greg and I believe there was a third, but I was a little late so I missed the introduction. They were commenting on the dub of "Demon City (something)," a rather bad anime movie in the collective opinion. That was some seriously funny stuff. More cons need to do events like that. I wish I could share some specific commentary examples, but nothing's coming to mind. :\

After that I sort of hung around for a while, getting food and browsing the dealer's room and that, took some pictures and got some pictures taken of me. At one point I had to run back to my room and hotglue the top of my staff back on, the staff fell on the floor and the top popped off since I haven't glued it permanently yet. ^^;; That was no big deal, but my new train was becoming a real problem. I'd put gathering stitches in the middle of the back, and that made the center too heavy and it kept falling off the snaps. So before the Masquerade, I went back to my room for a while and added two more snaps to both layers, in the center next to the zipper. That seems to have done the trick; for the rest of the day the train only came off on the sides where it was easy to reattach, even after sitting through the Masquerade. :)

So then there was the Masq. I hurried back to the convention center to find the cosplay had been delayed. So I got in line, which was twice as long by the time they finally opened the doors. Meanwhile... there was a hockey game going on. And two weddings. Sogen's small, so it didn't have the entire hotel OR the entire convention center. There were a lot more normal people around than I'm used to having at a con, which was new and strange, especially on my cosplay day. I think it was a good experience for me, though. I definitely got stared at a lot, and it was good practice ignoring it and walking around normally even under three feet of green hair. Especially since... and this is something, coming from me... I was one of the best cosplayers at the con. >.> There, I said it. ^^;; Sogen appears to be a casual con for most people. There was some really good cosplay there, but a lot of people went without or wore really basic stuff. I actually felt a little out of place doing cosplay, when usually it's the other way around. So on the whole, despite whatever else, Sogen was a good experience for me. I'm much more confident about cosplay now. ^^

Small con, so the Masq was short, which was good for me since OW that strapless bra still kills after sitting for a while. I have to do something about this before spring. First time I've been to a Masq where they had more seating than attendees... There were several good costumes, and since the crowd was small I was able to get some pictures. I'll post all my pics at once after my Sunday report, though.

Back to the cosplay confidence... I had a couple of people ask me if I was going to be in the contest earlier in the day, and after the Masq one of the cosplayers I'd taken a picture of earlier came rushing up to me demanding to know why I hadn't entered. ^^;; She'd been in the contest with her group, and deservedly so, and showered me with lovely compliments I made an attempt to believe. I never intended to enter any cosplay contests, and I know I'm not on the level of the big cons and most likely won't ever be, but after all this... once my costume's completely finished, I may enter the Masq at some of these little local cons. ^^

I retired early after that since I was tired of being in costume and there wasn't anything else going on except a concert and a dance, neither of which is really my thing. I spent the rest of the evening brushing out the horrible mess that is my wig after wearing, and packing up my stuff. And that was Saturday.

The Pluto costume's getting pretty close to being done. :) To do:

- Add one more snap back to the dress (I was short one)
- Fix and finish the upper edge
- Get some darker lipstick
- Make a better choker
- Have a necklace made
- Repaint the staff and glue on the top properly

Well, I forgot the anti-ego gear. Oh well, it doesn't go over as well at small cons anyway.

I got a late start, surprise surprise, but the con didn't start until around 4:00 so it wasn't that big of a deal. The trip was happily uneventful. The southwest corner of Minnesota seems to be entirely made up of farms powered by wind. o.O

The hotel here (Sioux Falls, SD) is amazingly awesome. There's a gorgeous fountain/garden area in the lobby, I wish I had someone with me to take pictures of me there in my costume tomorrow. Oh well. :\

After checking in and moving in my stuff (nice room in a great location in the building, too!) I quickly put some paint on the new shoulder pieces I made for my cosplay, and then tried to make it to Opening Ceremonies. Unfortunately, the convention center wasn't quite the hop skip and jump away that I thought it was, and the prereg pickup line, while short, was extremely slow. And then I had to run to the ATM and get some cash to register for the bento box workshop. The line for that was also very short and painfully slow, with some drunk attendees (already drunk!) and a chatty staff member. The staff here seems friendly and welcoming so far... but they really need to learn some SPEED. Holy crap. I'm glad it wasn't the size of line I'm used to at other cons, I would've been there all night.

So I missed Opening Ceremonies, but just for the heck of it I decided to go to the Mecha Combat panel. Not really my thing, but it was pretty interesting, they talked a lot about the realistic possibilities of mecha and the chances that we might start seeing these things in the real world. Smart guys, interesting thoughts. One of the panelists reminded me a hell of a lot of a guy I knew in a summer program during high school, though, and it was kind of freaking me out.

After that I breezed through the dealer's room, which is small but has some good stuff. I wasn't quite sure where the Artist's Alley stands, there seemed to be some of it in the dealer's room and some outside in the hallway. Maybe it'll be clearer tomorrow. There's someone there doing tarot readings, that's new. o_O I saw a guy from Detour in the dealer's room but he didn't recognize me. So it goes. Sogen's kind of weird in the social sense, too... it seems like half the people are really friendly, and the other half are looking at me kind of funny, like it's a private party I'm wandering into. Of course, the crowd's small, so individuals stick out more. (Speaking of the crowd, it seems to be largely populated by shrieking fangirls, and the convention center is uncarpeted. Ouch. x_x)

Then it was time for another coat of paint on the cosplay stuff, and The Great Errand Adventure. I needed food and some minor supplies, so I headed out and tried to follow the directions in the con newsletter thingy. Ended up in the middle of nowhere. Tried the other way with more success, and eventually found a Walgreens where I could pick up the stuff I needed, plus Subway for dinner.

When I got back I sewed for a while to fix a major mistake I made on my cosplay yesterday (GRR) and then went to "Whose VA Is It Anyway?" which was improv like the TV show with the guests as the players. That was pretty darn hilarious, which is easy to guess being that Greg and Chris and Monica are here. Plus it was an 18+ event, so there was all sorts of amusement going on. :3 Four words: Well-endowed space vampires. (or is that three words?)

After that it was back to the room to finish the sewing, which I did. Now I just have to fix the choker and then it's off to bed. There's a MST3K event I want to go to tomorrow, so I have to get up early enough to get my cosplay on in time to make it there. Ugh. x_x

No pics thus far, cosplay here is pretty lacking. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

(wow, I can't believe how many comments that got. ^^;;)

Yes, this is really old and stale, but there were some important post-con moments I want to remember, so I'm still gonna write up and post this. So nyah. :P

But I'll cut it, so you don't have to see it if you don't care. )

Now, of course, I'm focused on Anime Iowa. I have a room in the hotel and my registration went through, so I'm all set as far as the essentials go. Lots of work to be done, though... I'm still planning to enter the AMV contest, and I'm hoping to finish my first cosplay as well. Yay cons! :D

Normally I think I'll eventually regret wasting so much time and money on fandom, but this morning, it hit me that someday I'm going to look back and realize that these were the best years of my life. When I've finally turned into a career person, with a mortgage, six kids (God forbid) and a dog, I'm going to think wistfully of the days when I was single and free and traveling around the continent to meet long-distance loved ones...

Of course, that was before a conversation with my coworker today reminded me that I don't have any local friends to call when I feel like hanging out with someone. Not even one. -_-

But anyway... continuing my tradition of procrastinating on my con reports for obscene amounts of time... the last day of Anime North. This will probably be pretty brief, since I don't remember a lot of the details now.

Ahh, the pleasures of not having to check out of the hotel on Sunday. It was so nice being able to sleep in and relax while the rest of the con was packing up and figuring out what to do with their stuff. Reservations that last through Monday are win. I'm pretty sure the first thing we did was go to the "Women in the Anime Industry" panel at 1 PM, which I was pretty set on attending. Tiffany Grant and Corinne Orr were the panelists, and it started late since they were coming from autograph sessions. Normally I'm not too nuts about guest panels, but there wasn't much else going on, and I figured it might be an interesting topic since anime seems to be a male-dominated realm (although you wouldn't know it anymore to look at the fandom).

It turned out to be a pretty general panel about voice acting, which was still nice since I'd never been to one of those before. It was interesting to hear what it's like to work in the business. There was a good balance between the panelists, too - Corinne was a bit of the eccentric dramatic type, which was a bit off-putting (^^;;), but she's been in the business a long time and was able to offer a view of the changes in voice acting over the years, and Tiffany was a really down-to-earth casual person, newer to the business but more experienced in anime. And there's no sexism in voice acting, apparently. :)

As a bonus for the panel attendees, they did autographs and photos afterwards. I decided what I'm going to do with the blank space I have left on the anti-ego sword and shield - I'm going to fill it with autographs. I don't do Linecon, so it'll take a while, but I figure then I can smite fandom ego with the actual deserved ego of real professionals in the industry. ^_~ So I got their signatures on the sword, and a photo of them.

pics )

I do have to record a little gripe. This panel was in Main Programming, and the audience was pretty small, so the room was really big and empty. The tech crew was on hand hanging out in their tech area on one of the side walls... and through about half the panel they were merrily chatting away amongst themselves. At one point they got so loud and so distracting that the guests actually had to ask them to stop. And then, although they quieted down, they didn't offer any apology, they just laughed it off. Really unprofessional. In hindsight I could've taken that as an omen of things to come... but more about that in due time.

After that we had a final trip across the street to the dealer's room and the artist alley. I went on my what is hopefully going to become customary quest for original comics by the artists in the Alley. There were surprisingly few compared to Anime Boston. I think the AN artists know which side their bread is buttered on. I don't know if I mentioned this before, but there was supposed to be a writer's section of the Alley this year, and I didn't find it. Maybe there were a couple of booths in there somewhere and they released the others to artists, I don't know. So that was unfortunate. But even so, if they have the Writer's Way again next year, I'd like to put together a fanzine of stories by .moon writers. [livejournal.com profile] kats_kradle and I have hit on a plan to distribute artwork as part of the fanzine as well. :3

I suppose now is as good of a time as any to go over... THE LOOT! )

Items! What original comics there were on the left, plus a little L keychain from the Alley. And I found one of those adorable L plushies like the one I saw at [livejournal.com profile] tmchiba's cosplay court case event at Anime Boston! :D (my sister keeps stealing him... grrr...) And a pig pillow thingy from the Alley that I got for my sister since again I couldn't find any Cubees, and a Death Note artbook I spent way too much on when I could've gotten it for half as much across the room. Sigh. -_- Plus a Sailor Moon button [livejournal.com profile] kats_kradle got for me in the Alley, and then... the most prized item.

YAMAMAYAA! )

He's SO CUTE! *is ded from teh cuteness* I almost rolled on the floor with him, he's so adorable xD And really expensive, which sucked, since he's an actual UFO catcher prize from Japan and a rather high-quality one at that. I almost passed him by due to the price, but I had to have him. And I was really glad I caved in. omgtehcuteness

(I thought it would be Mayaa my sister would want to steal, but no. She's obsessed with L. What is it with her and plushies of characters she's totally unfamiliar with? First Alphonse and now L...)

Moving on, we went to a plot development panel next, which I'm afraid I don't remember anything about, and we left early to get to the Fanboys reading on time. The reading was at 4:00, at the very end of the con, so the crowd was sadly small, but they got a room with a stage so they were able to make it more of a production than a reading, which went VERY well. There were props and a soundtrack involved, and the fic was hilarious of course, and even when something went wrong they made it funny. Very nicely done. And I saved a good chunk of my camera's memory for it. :3

Essentially the story was, Chaos finally tried to get it through to Hysteria that she's an obnoxious fangirl and not cute, and Hysteria responded by throwing her own con stuffed with an abundance of cuteness and aided by the power of a Death Note.

THIS. IS. KAWAII!!! )

Unfortunately for the second year in a row I didn't get to hear how the story ended, because doom happened. Ranting time part II.

The Fanboys were scheduled for the end of the con because they'd requested two hours and the prog staff didn't want to give out two-hour time slots. They were told if they were at the end of the con they could run as long as they wanted to since nobody would be after them. But around 5:20, a staff member poked her head in the door and pointed impatiently at her watch. (Now that I think about it, she'd probably been waiting outside a while expecting them to wrap up at any time.) The Fanboys kept going, and a couple of other staffers came in and quietly went around to talk to Chaos and Mel who were off to the side and not on stage at the moment, nothing wrong with that. But after a few more minutes the watch-pointing lady came back in and started loudly complaining to some of her fellow staffers that the panel was supposed to be over and they had things to do bla bla bla. She obviously couldn't have cared less about how disruptive she was being, and proceeded to loudly start stacking up chairs in the back of the room while continuing to gripe about the Fanboys running over their scheduled time.

I had never been so disgusted in my life. Clearly there was a scheduling mixup, and if the Fanboys needed to stop, fine, but there was NO CALL for that sort of behavior from a member of staff. There was no excuse for that level of rudeness. As a con staffer myself, I understand these things happen, but you don't bust into a panel with that kind of passive-aggressive BS and treat panelists that way. Especially the Fanboys, who have been supporting Anime North in many ways for years and years. I was absolutely appalled, and as soon as I've finished my con reports I'm sending a formal complaint to Anime North about that woman. That was inexcusable.

So that, and the con, ended on a rather sour note, unfortunately. But overall it was a great time. And now some more pictures.

Cosplay ahoy! )

This got longer than I thought, so I think I'll save the after-party for a separate entry.
dejana: (AU Fics)
Before I get to Saturday, there's an important bit of Friday I forgot to add. On our way over to the dealer's room with Chaos and Mel, we ran into some of the Fanboys crowd in the parking lot. [livejournal.com profile] csi_tokyo3 was there, and he had the Sailormoon S DVD boxset he'd picked up for me ZOMGYAY. I handed over the cash and he handed over the discs and now I finally have a season S set that (hopefully) will play all the way through! (I haven't had a chance to test it yet.) Nightbreak, you're a lifesaver. Thanks again. ^_____^

Hysteria (Ysabet, nominated for three UFO Awards on .moon), was also there and did a double take when she saw the name on my con badge. xD Not only had she been getting several emails from me recently regarding the UFOs, she also uses the "Chaos on PuD" icon I made on her journal. Yay recognition! :D

Now for Saturday...

Got up relatively early on Saturday to go to the fanfiction awards. I'd bought some rope at a convenience store (why do we not have those in the states?? So handy), so I used that to tie the anti-ego sword to my hip and brought it and the shield along. I got some semi-cosplay-type attention at a con for the first time with those. It was a pretty weird experience after being just another face in the crowd for half a dozen cons but... I think I could get used to it. :3

Ry came with me to the awards, and after making an idiot of myself by speeding down to the far end of the hotel before checking the map and finding out the event was way back at the other end, we got there partway through Steve Savage's opening speech. Pretty soon he started announcing the winners and handing out the award certificates. And I won something. ^^; He'd notified me in advance that I was a winner, but the category was a surprise. And it was... Best Use of Setting. o_O I'd submitted "Full Circle." Setting. Oooookay. Both Ry and I were pretty floored by that. Savage (wtf do I call him anyway? That? Steve?) said it was a tough category to choose a winner for, and there is sort of a setting contrast in the story between the soldiers' retreat and Crystal Tokyo, but yeah. Pretty odd. I finally win something and it's a weird category like this. ^^;; He did say I came close to winning for Characterization, though. There was one winner who'd only been writing for six months and hadn't used a beta. I hope the contest entries actually make it onto the con website this year, I'd like to read hers.

After the awards were handed out he invited the winners to form an impromptu panel on stage, which I joined, because, well, why not. There was some Q&A but I don't really remember any of the discussion from that part of the event. Afterwards the remaining people in the room formed a roundtable and we had more of a general casual discussion about fanfic, and trends and practices in fanfic. Very nice. We talked about the decline in fic writers wanting to become published fiction writers, and the crackdown on original characters, and I won some brownie points by suggesting interest in moving on to original work may be waning since any attempt to practice by creating non-canon elements gets stomped on.

While we were talking about original works, one of the people there mentioned his original story, and when Savage asked where it was hosted he said it was on .moon. Squee! A member! I was so surprised and excited by that I just about jumped out of my chair. xD It was Dustinus, author of "Subject 13." *makes another mental note to make time to read that story* (omg, I just went to .moon to verify the title of the story and I totally forgot he's also the author of "Sailor Canoehead," who I mentioned meeting last year. Wow, I'm a forgetful idiot. -_-;;) For an additional squee, Savage actually knew of the site! .moon is getting some recognition! YAYS! Of course even after all that I was too chicken to properly pimp the site to the other people there. -_-

[livejournal.com profile] jelynne and [livejournal.com profile] csi_tokyo3 were there, so we all had a chance to chat after the roundtable was finished, and then Ry and I went to lunch I believe. At 1:00 there was a PGSM panel, which was okay, but it largely turned into a regular Sailormoon panel. It was a bit disappointing being that this was the first time I'd seen a con host both a BSSM panel AND a PGSM panel. But oh well. I guess it's kind of hard to discuss just the live-action without getting into the general fandom, and from there the anime and manga.

After that we went to the Gender in Anime/Manga panel, expecting it to be about gender roles and how men and women are portrayed, but it turned out to be mainly about yaoi and yuri. Like a lot of things, really. The Anime North crowd really loves its slash. Which is fine in itself, but that's not what we were there for, so we left before too long. I can't remember exactly what we did for the next hour after that... maybe that's when we hit the Artist's Alley for the first time? And then at 4:00 there was the general fanfiction panel, with Chaos and Steve Savage and some girl who sounded really familiar but I couldn't place why, and a couple of Ouran cosplayers who came in late. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly what was said at that panel either. ^^;; Some serious discussion, and some goofy talk about crazy crossovers of doom.

5:00 was the writer's meetup I had organized. It was pretty small and Fanboy-heavy, but not bad for a first try; hopefully next time around we can get some more diversity in there. (Dustinus perhaps, for example, now that I'll be sure not to forget him.) We had Ry and Chaos and [livejournal.com profile] csi_tokyo3 and [livejournal.com profile] jelynne and me. We went down to what I guess was the consuite, a bunch of tables in a side area that was being used off and on for various events. We picked up some additional random Fanboys, too, since that tends to happen when you're with any of them. ^^;; Sadly I can't remember now exactly who they were.

We chatted for a while about the various things we're working on and the kind of stuff we like to write. It's nice to be able to do that in person once in a while. The anti-ego sword was put to use, although not by me.

Mr. Oblivious )

When it seemed like things were wrapping up... I just couldn't help myself. I saw all these writer people sitting in front of me and I just had to ask for a little input on an original novel idea I've been keeping to myself for a long time. A novel about fandom. So I asked everyone what they thought, hoping for just a bit of input, a yay/nay on some ideas that had been lurking in the back of my head. And I got some, people seemed interested enough. And then Steve Savage walked by. And since it's a novel about fandom, and he's nuts about fandom, they called him over. And Chaos had to go and Savage took his place, and then it turned into THE MOST AWESOMELY AMAZING BRAINSTORMING SESSION I'VE EVER BEEN IN THE PRESENCE OF. Ideas were flying all over the place. I wish I'd started taking notes earlier. Savage wasn't too crazy about my plot idea at first, but once we'd all worked on it a bit he warmed up to it, and by the time we wrapped it up he was so interested that he gave me his email address so I can keep him posted on how it goes. ^^! Wow, man. Now I really gotta wrap up AAO etc so I can get started on this thing. xD

Someone who was there recommended a book to me about a similar concept. I ordered it over the weekend, it arrived the day after I got back from the con, and I just finished it this afternoon. And I think I can do better. >)

After that... Ry and I probably went to dinner and then... I can't remember if we went to the Fanthropology panel or not. I remember we were interested in going, but I can't remember if we actually went. My memory's mixing it up with the plot panel on Sunday. I think we did go, and that was the panel where they were passing around books about fandom, including the one [livejournal.com profile] misscheeveeuss had used in one of her classes with the "Fierce Flesh" chapter about Sailormoon that still makes me really angry. ^^;; My memory's telling me that was the plot panel, though, which doesn't make sense... Ry, if you're reading this, jog my memory?

As I recall we packed it in pretty early that night since there wasn't much of anything going on, and went back to the hotel room and watched the first volume of Mai-HiME, which I had brought with me. Yay, Mai-HiME! I got Ry hooked. :D

I did manage to get a couple of pictures Saturday night.

All right, on to the con itself. It's been a week now, and I have the otaflu and only got four hours of sleep last night and am dizzy as hell, haha, so let's see how much I remember. ^^;;

Thursday night we'd gone to the movie at midnight, and the con didn't start until 5 PM Friday, so we slept in really late, until noon or so. That was really nice, I'd been living on 5-6 hours of sleep per night over the previous week so it was refreshing to be able to sleep well for once. As I recall we lazed around on the internet etc before taking showers and heading over to Perkins for a late breakfast. I left the anti-ego gear in the hotel room on Friday, I hadn't figured out yet how exactly I was going to carry it and decided to wait for Saturday when I knew I'd be seeing Chaos.

At 5 PM the con started and we went to the Sailor Moon panel. It turned out Chaos was on that panel, whoops, I didn't have my gear, but no biggie.

After the organized awesomeness of Anime Boston's Sailormoon panel, I have to admit I was disappointed in Anime North's, but I'm pretty biased for obvious reasons. ^^;; And I'd forgotten how disorganized AN panels in general tend to be. On the positive side, discussion was freer this year, without the panel organizer butting in every few minutes to force the panelists on to another one of her scripted questions. On the negative side, misinformation was still being dispensed in abundance. It really amazes me how many people still have no idea what's going on in Sailormoon-land. Sailormoon is OLD, people. It's not one of those fandoms that's still alive and changing. There's really no excuse not to know what the facts are.

Regarding some things, however, it's possible that I'm the one who doesn't have all the facts. Throughout the con a number of people were asserting that all the English distribution rights were pulled because of a legal battle wherein Naoko-sama is attempting to get her rights back as the creator. Does anyone know if that's true?

There were a few cosplayers there, so I used one of my precious 17 pictures...

pretty soldiers )

After the panel we met up with Chaos and Mel in the hallway, and none of us were really interested in the Writer's Block panel (although now I'm hearing that was a good panel, oh well), so we all headed over to the dealer's room together. Chaos and I both remembered our freebie fans from last year. :D We split up when we got there, and Ry and I wandered around for... a couple of hours, I believe. I can't remember what all I bought when, so I'll go over all my loot in one go at the end.

When we were done there it was nearly 9:00. Ry and I split up for a while at that point, I wanted to go to the AMVs and she wanted to check out the flea market thing that was happening in the other hotel. So I got in line for the AMV contest. A concert was going on in the room, so the line was stuck outside until after the start time, which was rather obnoxious, but I had pictochat to keep me company. :D This was my first con with a DS. A pretty active line-waiting pictochat was going on, but once the doors opened and they let everyone into the AMVs room, everyone logged off. -_- Only one guy hung around. So I chatted with him through most of the contest until my battery died. He was an AMV creator (although he hadn't entered this year's contest) so it was fun critiquing the various entries. He gave me his MSN address when I had to log off.

I met up with Dos and Kats and Deso for the AMVs, which were in a big room divided into four sections, each with its own screen. There was a stage in the middle of the room, so they couldn't have a central screen. It had two screens up front on either side of the stage, which was pretty normal, but also two more in the middle of the room hanging from the ceiling. We sat behind one of those, and I was glad we did, because they had to turn the sound up extremely loud and I would've been deaf if I'd stayed up front where I was originally sitting. >.O Even so... the sound quality was pretty bad. I don't know if it was the room, or the speaker setup or what, but a lot of the videos depended on the song lyrics and I couldn't understand most of them. My pictochat buddy was up front and he was in pain from the noise.

The videos themselves were also rather disappointing. Anime North is big on comedy videos involving a lot of lip-sync, and I'm just not crazy about that sort of humor. Usually there are a few I really like though... last year I downloaded a couple after the contest, but this year nothing really stuck out to me as something I wanted. Some were better than others, but that's about as far as it went for me. It didn't help that the challenge theme was old anime, so there was a lot of 80s music and grainy footage being used. :\

After the contest I picked up dinner at Subway and discovered the most obnoxious thing that would plague me all weekend - my cell phone refused to connect to anyone! >( Ry had tried to call me twice and got no answer, so she'd gone back to the hotel. All I could do was send text messages. Ry and Dos both tried to call me during the weekend and my phone never rang. If I called anyone it went straight to voicemail. So frustrating! >O At least I had text messages... I was able to connect with Ry that way and pick up a sandwich for her too before heading back to the room. :)

And that was the end of Friday.
dejana: (Chibiusa and ChibiChibi)
Okay, now that I'm somewhat recovered and the massive LJ fiasco appears to have blown over, I'm ready to start my con reports. Couple notes up front:

  • I started to catch up on my flist but with Strikethrough and everything there's just no way. If you've posted anything in the last two weeks that you'd like me to read, please give me a link.
  • I misplaced my camera's memory card during the con, so these reports are going to be sadly lacking in the pictures department. (Camera's internal memory could only hold 17.) And of course, when I got home, I discovered the memory card had been with me the entire time. I am a moron. -_-
Now on to the adventure.

I left town on Wednesday the 23rd. Continuing my fine road trip tradition, I got a late start, surprise surprise. I'd been hoping to head out early so I wouldn't still be driving late at night, but I'd only had a day and a half to get everything ready, so I needed some more time Wednesday morning. I finally got on the road around noon, same as last year. -_- At least it wasn't any later.

Driving was pretty uneventful. I was taking the same route as last year, through Chicago etc, same old same old, so nothing new there. Wisconsin is FOREVER. And it really is full of cheese. Once you finally escape the eternal state of doom, however, the rest of the trip seems short. I ended up stopping for the night in Benton Harbor MI again, but I decided to spring for a nicer hotel this year and went to a Holiday Inn Express. Really nice place, and free internet. :D I was able to get a few things done online that I hadn't had time to before leaving.

The next day it was off to the middle of Michigan to meet up with Ry ([livejournal.com profile] maryho). I actually got going on time on Thursday, yays. :D Michigan is a lot like Minnesota. Driving through there reminds me a lot of my trips north at home. Ry was off doing last-minute preparation errands when I got to her house, so I had to wait a bit, but not too long. When she arrived I moved my stuff to her car and we were off.

We made good time, since Ry is a serious speed demon (;P). But the border crossing into Canada was the single most unpleasant such experience of my life, even over last year's return to the U.S. (which previously held that title). I've never seen or heard of a Canadian border guard questioning anyone so intensely. Weird questions, too. Seriously, what kind of question is "What are you bringing into Canada?" Um, clothes? And then she didn't even check our paperwork. Weirdness.

Canada is forever, too. For such a seemingly short distance from the border to Toronto it sure takes ages to cross it. There were a few traffic slow spots but we got to the hotel earlier than I made it last year, checked in (free warm cookies yum) and proved what huge geeks we are by immediately taking advantage of the wireless internet when we got to our room. ^^;; Then it was off to the pre-reg line downstairs. [livejournal.com profile] kats_kradle came and found us in line, but I refused her offer of line-jumping (:P), so we waited there a while. [livejournal.com profile] mechaboydos wandered over at some point and I was able to give him the 4chan button I'd bought for him at Anime Boston.

Once we picked up our prereg stuff, I stopped by the weapons master to get licensed to carry the Project of Doom... which I suppose I might as well show you all now...

DOOM )

The story is, last year before I met Chaos for the first time he was warning me about his rampaging ego, so I wanted to create these to defend myself. xD Unfortunately I couldn't get the blank sword and shield until the Ren Fest the following fall. So I made them for this year instead, and they'll be part of my standard con gear from now on. (BTW, I've decided to fill the flat of the sword blade with guest signatures - to smite fandom ego with actual deserved ego - but if anyone has suggestions of more anti-ego phrases to add, I have room on the shield.)

After all that we went to dinner with some of the Fanboys crew. Ry is awesome. :D She's such a friendly and cool person, and way better at getting along with strangers than me. ^^;; It was great to see her having a good time. And great to see Kats and Dos again too, and some of the other folks I remembered from last year.

I was with Ry, so after dinner we had to go to a late/early showing of Pirates 3. xD I won't go into that here, but you can read my comments on the movie in the POTC3 thread on .moon: http://www.dotmoon.net/board/index.php?topic=1593.0

When we got back to the hotel it was around 3 AM, so it was bedtime. And that was the end of the pre-con excitement. Actual con stuff will be in later posts.
dejana: (Jetto Ninjin!)
(Con madness... I saw Dave the other day, and I wanted to say hi, but I was on the wrong side of the car to yell and too chicken to honk the horn. >.>;; Plus I was just really surprised to see anyone from Detour in my area, I thought I was all alone out here.)

Okay, last one. Better late than never...? ^^;; Let's see how much I remember...

Sundays at cons are always the slow days. Everything's winding down, people are leaving, there's not much going on... but for some reason I didn't get that depressed empty feeling I usually get at the end of cons. Maybe because I didn't feel like there was anything missing, maybe because Detour was last month and Anime North is next month so I won't have to wait long for another con... xD

Sunday morning did come way too soon after being up until 4 AM again watching Azumanga. x_x After checking out of the hotel and dropping off our stuff at the bag check (yay bag check!) we had another wander around the dealer's room. I picked up a few odd volumes of things I'd been missing, so now I can finally read and watch those unfinished series I'd had lying around. :D

The final haul! )

After that we headed into the Artists' Alley again. I had about $20 left, so I decided to buy all the original comics I could afford. I figure, that's what these people are really hoping to sell, and that's what they have the hardest time selling. And who knows, it might be really good. Plus the artists get so happy when you buy their original work, it's fun to be nice to them. ^____^ I haven't read any of the comics yet, since I've been rereading FMA, but I'm looking forward to it.

Total AA loot! )

Let's see, what else did we do... We watched a bit of the cosplay chess, but there was a lot of extra skit stuff going on, including Part 3 of the whole pirates/ninjas/alchemists/shinigami thing (an Ed came running in at one point pursued by half a dozen ninjas), and it was over half an hour past the start time and the game STILL hadn't started. We weren't really into it so we left.

We were going to wander around the city a little bit but I wasn't feeling well (sorry [livejournal.com profile] aarana ;_;) so we stuck near the con. I did actually step outside for a while, though. Outside air! A rare con experience! ;D I think if I go to AB again, I'll schedule a couple extra days to actually check out Boston a bit.

We also wandered up to GameStop because we both decided we had to be in on the pictochat next time. xD And man. When we got there, the guys told us they'd started the weekend with 30 DSs in each of the four colors, and they were down to about five pink ones. That was all they had left. The con practically cleaned them out. o.o;;

Not much else to say about Sunday (which makes it all the worse that I waited so long to do the report ^^;;). I can't remember if we peeked into any other events, but as far as I remember there wasn't much of interest going on.

[livejournal.com profile] aarana was kind enough to drop me off at the airport (screw Boston public transit, man, if go to AB again and don't have a ride I'm springing for the hotel shuttle), and on the flight home I got my first good look at the ocean. I wrote some lame glurge about it in my notebook that I'm sure I thought at the time was really deep and profound. ^^; Back in Minnesota we had to land through clouds and I got my first taste of serious turbulence. Whee. But, obviously, it was all okay in the end. :)

A few more pics )

Huge thanks go out to [livejournal.com profile] aarana for being such a great person and essentially being my hostess for the entire con. I had a great time and it was fun hanging out with you. Thanks for putting up with me. ;)

Also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tmchiba for having me on his panel, and for being on mine.

And that's it for Boston. Time to get cracking on preparations for Anime North. @_@
dejana: (Spork - Robot)
Okay, on to The Big One. Saturday of the con. We got lots of sleep Friday night, which was nice. :)

The first event of the day was the Anime Dating Game, which I would've passed on had [livejournal.com profile] aarana not talked me into it. I'm glad she did, since it was great fun. Extremely popular, too. We barely got in; they cut off the line a couple dozen people after us.

the Anime Dating Game )

(Throughout the con there was a pirates vs. ninjas theme going on, FYI.)

When that was over we went to the Fanfiction C&C Workshop. (On the way there we passed the growing line for the Masquerade, people had started lining up around NOON. O_O) The guy running the workshop had wanted to be on my fanfic panel, but he had another panel during that time. So we went to check out his, and met up with [livejournal.com profile] tmchiba there. The guy did a very formal presentation (turns out he's a teacher) with some good tips on giving and receiving criticism. Speaking of criticism, though, when some people were disappointed to hear they had missed the regular fanfic panel the day before, he commented that if it had been called just plain "Fanfic Panel" instead of "The Writer's Block" more people would've known about it. Well, excuse me for trying to be a little creative. I'll be boring next time. :P (Personally, I think that's no excuse. When I go to a con I check for any events that might be fanfic-related. With "writer" right in the title... c'mon, people, use your brains.) Anyway, it was a workshop, and none of us really need help when it comes to giving concrit, so we left when he got to the group critiquing exercise part.

There was a bit of spare time then, so we went back to the hotel room for a bit, and then headed to the Masquerade. As panelists, we got to skip the line and go right in to a reserved area in the middle, four rows from the front. :3 It was AWESOME. We were right up front and we didn't have to wait in line all afternoon! :DDD With privileges like that, sitting through a long Masquerade is a treat! haha! Plus, we ended up sitting right in the middle of a bunch of the AMV editors whose work had been in the contest. I was reading the DS picto-chat over one guy's shoulder and watching them upload their videos to the org. xD

Okay, honesty time. In terms of costumes:

Boston > Detour

That's to be expected though, since Anime Boston is so much bigger. You're automatically going to get better cosplay there. Detour had some really awesome cosplayers, but Boston had more of them. It's a size ratio thing. (But to be fair, there were a few absolutely amazing costumes at Detour these past two years that nothing I saw at Boston came close to.)

However. In terms of the overall production:

Detour > Boston

Hands down. :D Not that the Boston Masq was bad, not at all, but it had some issues reminiscent of Detour '06, while Detour's Masq was incredibly smooth this year.

the Masquerade )

Of course, the best skit was the Tetris Ninjas I linked to the other day, who weren't eligible for any awards since some of them were on staff. I took some pictures but it's much better to watch the video.

There wasn't much going on after the Masq, so we went back to the room, watched some AMVs and some more Azumanga Daioh, and then went to sleep.

I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff but my shift's over and I gotta go home and sleep. I'll post about Sunday later.

First part of Friday

Okay, now that I've had some sleep and am (mostly) over the drama that was waiting for me when I got home (the worst thing about cons is everything goes back to normal afterwards), back to my con reports. :D

After the Cosplay Court Case panel, we hit the dealers' room. Good stuff was obtained. I haven't had a chance to take a picture of my whole haul yet, so I'll add that to a later post.

My panel, the Writer's Block, was at 5:30 PM. All my panelists showed up, which was one up on Chiba, he had to run his alone. ^^;; But the crowd was really small. We only got a couple dozen at most. Fortunately, those who did attend were really into it. We got plenty of questions, and I never had to resort to my prepared list. A good number of the topics I had in mind were brought up by audience members, too (original characters, crossovers, etc). We had a good variety of opinions on the panel, so despite the small audience I think it went really well. Everything went smoothly and I'm happy with it. :)

After that I hurried back to the hotel to get my laptop, and then it was back to the convention center for the Sailormoon panel at 7 PM. There were five of us on the panel - [livejournal.com profile] tmchiba, [livejournal.com profile] aarana, myself and two people I didn't know who I think were on the panel last year. We were in a huge room with a tech setup similar to Main Programming at Detour minus the lights, for those of you who go to AD, and it was nearly filled. It's really amazing how much staying power the Sailormoon fandom has. There were plenty of questions from the audience. One of the girls on the panel was really vocal and answered most of the questions (and in fact it seemed to me she got a bit irritated when I jumped in to answer some >.>) so I mainly just handled tech for our presentation, which was cool with me given the AD situation. Plus, it was my laptop we were using. :3 There was some iffyness while I reminded myself how to get stuff to show up on the projectors, but I got it sorted out before too long. So first we showed some of one of the musicals, and then some of the aforementioned Project that will remain unnamed, and then I ran some soundless video compilations [livejournal.com profile] aarana had put together while we did Q&A. At the end we distributed some goodies to the crowd, including the DVDs I had burned of the Project (which were really popular, and I plugged the YouTube uploads as well, so don't hate me unknown creator people >.>). It was a great panel. :D The Princess Kakyuu photo I posted in my first batch of pictures was taken at that panel.

Thennnn... umm... *resorts to program guide* oh yeah! The AMV contest was next. xD haha, it's already been a while... ^^;;

Went to see the AMVs. On the way we saw a ton of people in line for the Cherry Blossom Ball, a number of whom did not fit the advertised dress code. I wonder if they stuck to their guns on that.

There were several good AMVs in the contest, I'll go over those more when I talk about the winners in Saturday's report. The comedy section was really weak, though. I totally could've gotten in with my Azumanga video if I'd had it done in time. I've always thought I wouldn't have a prayer of getting into the big con contests, but maybe I'll try submitting something next time after all.

We were rather tired after that, so we pretty much went to bed right away. Wow, Friday seems so short. o.O [livejournal.com profile] aarana, if you read this, remind me if I'm missing anything? It feels like I am. Otherwise, that wraps it up for Friday.
dejana: (Chiyo-chan)
Hi folks ^^

I do have internet access here at the con, but I haven't had time to get to this until now (I don't even have time now really, I'm in the back of the room at the fanfic C&C workshop, I'm being bad :3).

So Thursday afternoon I flew out here to Boston. [livejournal.com profile] aarana picked me up at the airport and then we headed over to the con hotel. After checking into our room and picking up my badge and stuff, we had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory (yum ^^). The hotel here is connected to the convention center, and also a mall (I pity those poor innocent shoppers), so everything's really conveniently close together and I don't mind so much that it's not a hotel con. After that we went back to the hotel room to burn DVDs of a certain "project" involving Sailormoon (it's not mine, so I won't name it, please don't be mad at me creator people >.>). I brought my PS2 but the TVs here have no AV hookups at all, so we watched anime on my laptop instead. I found out [livejournal.com profile] aarana had never seen Azumanga Daioh (gasp!) so we watched a few episodes of that until [livejournal.com profile] tmchiba and his GF arrived. Then... we watched one of the Sailormoon musicals. xD Ah, the heckling. There was much heckling. Late-night heckling, even. Good times. >3

Then, Friday! I was going to go to Opening Ceremonies but it was in the morning and I was just too tired (we were up until 4 AM @_@). When I finally met up with [livejournal.com profile] aarana we went to the Artists' Alley. I've decided I don't spend nearly enough money in places like that, so this time I made myself buy fun stuff. :D

Behold! )

The guy who did the FMA fanart has a webcomic I flipped through at his table that was really hilarious. Be warned, though, it's adult comedy. Sticky Floors

I picked up some small gifts for a certain trio... :3

for kelleh, NOS and Dos )

After that it was time for [livejournal.com profile] tmchiba's first panel, "Cosplay Court Case." It was PACKED. There wasn't even a description for it in the program guide, since it was a last-minute addition that was almost turned down, and it was still full to the doors. [livejournal.com profile] tmchiba got a bunch of volunteers to be the accused, the judge, the baliffs and the lawyers on both sides. For the first case, the defendant was Sakura from Naruto. She was accused of murder (although that was pretty much forgotten, I don't even remember who the victim was supposed to be ^^;;), having hair that didn't make any sense and a headband that was bought at Hot Topic. xD

cast )

The first case went really well. Everyone was really energetic and into it. Lots of fun argument went on between the two sides, and people were in character and using their brains, always a plus. ;)

lawyers for the defense )

Sakura had an adorable L plushie. I want one. ;_;

the prosecution )

[livejournal.com profile] tmchiba is the guy in the suit on the floor to the right.

There were a couple executioners on hand to take care of the guilty parties. xD

mwahaha die )

Some guy insulted Hiei partway through and was put to death without a trial o.o

In the second case, Gaara was the accused:

himguy )

A ton of people wanted to prosecute this guy. xD

Only L got up to defend him.

standing up for the little guy )

Unfortunately this case was pretty brief and uneventful, since most of the people got involved in the first one. ^^;; Overall, though, it was a fun event, and most of the people stayed for the whole thing. Big success. ^^

And unfortunately I'm going to have to stop here for now, we have to head out for the Masquerade (as a panel organizer I don't have to wait in line, woohoo!). I'll have to finish babbling about Friday (and Saturday!) later. ^^;;;

But in the meantime... Cosplay photos! )

More about the con later. ^^
dejana: (Spork - Robot)
Warning, the cut portions of this entry are extremely long and image-heavy.

So, the past week...

I'd planned on doing running con reports like I normally do, but alas, the internets were denied to me for most of the trip. *weeps*

So now I have to write about the entire trip in one go. *further weeping* This is going to be a lot less detailed than my usual con reports because it's been days since much of this stuff happened and I'm lazy. :P

I didn't even get to make a goodbye-and-how-to-find-me post before I left, because I was too busy to write one the day beforehand and when I got to the airport on Wednesday I found out it was $10 to use the internet and the signal strength was crap. -_- I did write up an entry about miscellaneous things, intending to post it when I got internet access, but obviously that didn't happen.

So here it is. )

After that I flew out to Philadelphia to meet up with everyone. The Wednesday assembly was me, Kelleh, NOS, Dos, and Nigoki. Yes, the mechaboys. I could title this thing "Adventures with Mechaboys." -_- Of all the weird things I never thought would happen...but anyway. We spent Wednesday and Thursday in Philadelphia before heading to the con.

Philly Miscellany )

We waited for a while to meet up with another guy who was driving Nigoki and some of the luggage to the con, and then it was off to Baltimore. With faulty air conditioning and some directional mishaps, the trip was long and baking, but we eventually got there. BTW, from now on a roll of paper towels will be a necessary item among my con supplies.

Otakon! )

Miscellaneous pictures! )

Dos was dropped off at the airport and then the rest of us headed back to NOS' place. There was barbecue, and Memories, and Robot Carnival, and brief internet access so I could run the .moon update, and sleep. Monday we dropped Nigoki off at the bus station and reunited with Kelleh, and the three of us (NOS being the third) generally hung around until I had to go to the airport. Funny thing, that...we went shopping and looked at manga and anime and games. AFTER the con. Heehee. I actually bought some manga, when I had bought NONE at the con. xD I generally don't bother looking at anime and manga at cons since you can get it anywhere now, and usually cheaper. Then I flew home, arriving late Monday night. And that was the end of that.

General afterthoughts )

I got home to find my dishes done, my mail brought in, my trash taken out, my A/C running, and my copies of "1776" and RahXephon missing. That's what happens when I leave my keys with my dad. ;)

After the con I was totally exhausted, but unfortunately I didn't get a break right away. Over the weekend I got a call from my sister; there was a death in the family. My grandma's husband passed away on Friday.

Tuesday )

By the time I got home last night it was late, so I had to go right to sleep and put off anything internet until today. I should've gotten a lot of things done, but I spent today sleeping and relaxing instead. After this whole week of busyness I'm just too wiped out to care about anything else, even if it's important. I'm really glad I took today off even though I really didn't need it.

It's taken me six hours to write this, but it's FINALLY done. Thank God. If I think of anything I've forgotten to add, I'll do a follow-up entry tomorrow. But now it's bedtime, as I have work tomorrow. It's nice to be home, and at the same time sad to be back to the same old grind. This ends the con season for me; from here on it's nothing con-related except AD work through AD itself in March. Good night, all.
dejana: (Potterpuffs - Tonks)
I'm home! ^^

Got home safely, the whole traveling bit was almost entirely uneventful both ways, which is a good thing. I'm really glad to have had the experience of making a long drive like that, it'll be a useful skill. And I don't think I'll ever be nervous driving in Minnesota again, haha. I have discovered, though, that I get extremely depressed after cons for some reason. That wasn't fun. I feel better now, however, since I'm home and the "Did I ever leave?" feeling has set in, haha.

Heart's still flaking out. I really need to get an appointment set up. Now that I'm back, there's no excuse not to.

Anyway, the con. I didn't feel like taking pictures much, so you'll have to live with the text version. There were maybe half a dozen cosplayers I was really impressed with, and I was too lazy to dig out my camera for that...so meh.

First of all... Kats is awesome. No, really. Beyond awesome. She did her best, which was above and beyond the call of duty, and for that she rocks so much.

There was a lot of meeting people, LOTS of people (damn the Fanboys are a HUGE group, you have NO idea), and the whole crowd together was a bit much for me, but I handled it okay when it was small groups. I tripped up a couple of times, but overall, not half bad really. I'm very glad I went. Met Chaos, although somehow he happened to be half-naked 50% of the time which was interesting to say the least, and blue, who is awesome, although you'd never know to look at her how off-the-wall she can be online, heehee, and Gaffney, whose lips move when someone else is reading their part of a script. ;P And uhm...what's that guy's name... Steve Savage, who was on some panels, I've heard his name mentioned around a bit, some of you may know who he is. And a bunch of other awesome folks. Added a few new people to my friends list here on LJ, which is yay. *waves*

Con-details-cut time! )

Now all that remains is the big question... Otakon or Anime Iowa?
