dejana: (Neptune and Uranus)
Tonight I went to a special showing of RENT in theaters. Not the movie - a recording of one of the final Broadway stage performances. My dad found out about it and got tickets for us. I really enjoyed it. Some of the cinematography was kind of annoying - it didn't need near as many closeups, especially with Roger looking an absolute fright in his makeup ^^; - but if this version was ever up for sale, I'd totally buy it. (Unlike the actual movie. Pass.) It's the closest I'll ever get to seeing the show on Broadway, now that it's closed. ;_;

Call me an idiot for not getting it entirely the first few times around (I've seen the show at least five times), but I understand a little more of the depth of RENT every time I see it. Certain aspects I'm sure I knew all along, since they're the whole point of the thing, but I don't always think clearly about them right away. (Like this post, for example. Man is my brain tired. ^^;) It largely depends on what's influencing my life at the time.

After finding out he's going to die prematurely, Roger shuts himself up in his apartment desperately trying to compose the one great song that will let him live beyond his years. But it's only when he lets go of all that and decides to live in the moment that the song comes to him. At the same time, Mark thinks he's so different from Roger, but he's really in the same boat. As long as he closes himself off from people, his films are no better than Roger's songs.

I was so busy talking about stuff during the credits that I didn't even think about doing what the tile at the end told me to do - text a code to a certain number for a chance to win tickets to the upcoming tour of the show. -_- It did remind me that I need to make a plan to see it. The original Mark and Roger are going to be touring with the show this season, and I'm determined to make it to a performance. Unfortunately, there isn't going to be one here in the Cities. :\ That leaves a road trip to Chicago as my best bet... and the run there is unfortunately right around Detour time. x_x Still, I may be able to work it out, and it's definitely worth a shot. :) There's also the outside chance I might be in Seattle at the right time, instead. We'll see what happens.

Wow, this is a rough post. I got really tired really fast, for some reason...

OOH. On a happy note, I finally finished the last few badges I had to make for the UFO Awards. I'm free! When I wake up tomorrow, I can work on anything I want, at last. :D
