Which of these joints would be more stable?

The two pieces to be joined will be round wood dowels, but they will NOT be glued; this needs to be able to be taken apart whenever necessary. The dotted line running through the middle is a screw that will be used to secure the joint. The idea is to be able to attach the two pieces so they will as strong as one piece, or at least as strong as is possible.
