This is for
sache. I just read this on

So i finish with my alterations, which pretty much cut their obit in half and excluded the picture.
Sis1: Wow...
Sis3: why did you cross out this comma?
Me: [considering I had done this over and over for people now for several months, it was second nature to just go ahead and alter it like I was really fixing to enter it in to the computer] Excuse me?
Sis3: This comma, and that comma, and, well good lord! Someone needs to teach you how to write!
Me: *pause* Those commas are gramtically(sp) incorrect...
sis3: *laugh* Right, right, hon, I have a degree in English. I think I know what I'm talking about.
Me: MLA or APA?
Sis3: ...what?
Me: If you have a degree in English you no doubt use MLA format. However, newspapers work a little differently. We use APA format because MLA makes us use to much space. APA has different rules about where commas are necessary and other funthings like that. If you want, I can go get our APA handbook.
sis3: *stares furiously at the obit like she would change the commas with her mind*
sis2: Well, this just won't do. I guess we'll have to go with the paid obit. How do we do that?
Sis3: You said we could put anything in a paid obit.
Me: yes
sis3: Well I want commas here.
Me: I can't do that. Some editting will still take place to make it grammatically correct.
sis3: But I want these commas.
Me: ...Tell you what. I'll ask if I can keep these commas where they are but I'm pretty sure the answer will be no. But I'll try. However, if you see this obit without the commas, it was because I was unsuccessful and policy won. Is that ok?
Sis3: I guess that'll do.
