I'm sad I forgot about the 12 of 12, because I've had an unusual couple of days. Mostly, they've been filled with driving. I blew through two tanks of gas and a full third of my oil change in the past 48 hours. @_@ Tuesday was totally worth it, though.
Tuesday was dinner theater day at last. I got to sleep in a while, and then my sister and I headed north to pick up my mom and
jambosana. When we got there, we pretty much just turned around and headed right back. It was close (a 2-hour drive each way, plus cross-town in rush hour traffic), but we made it to Chanhassen by 6:30 PM for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
My mom loves this show and really wanted to see it again, and she's the main reason we went, even though it meant driving north to get her. I sprung for one of the special booth tables that's a raised semi-circle, so we'd be able to face forward instead of having to twist around in our chairs to see. The last time I went to this theater I was at a regular table where we had to do that, and it was really uncomfortable. The booth was expensive, and you had to have a group of four (hence
jambosana :)), but it was totally worth it. I felt special being in one of those groups I used to feel jealous of. :D
The food was great (I tried some Brie!) and the show was pretty darn good. Joseph was a bit over-hammy, and the Pharaoh was a bit weak, but on the whole it was spirited and entertaining. Not bad for a weeknight and nearing the close of the show. Costumes and set were A+. Very cool. (Has anyone else ever noticed the "Who's the Thief?" bit of Joseph is practically the same as a bit from Jesus Christ Superstar? o_O) The whole thing was rather more expensive than I'd planned, because appetizers and drinks and desserts were extra, but it was still totally worth it. Mom had a good time and we all got to get dressed up and go out somewhere nice. ^^
Mom has a temp job Wednesday through Friday this week, so right after the show I had to drive her and
jambosana another two hours back home. I spent last night at my mom's, and then drove back to the Twin Cities this afternoon.
I'm very glad for the good day that was yesterday, because today was pretty much equally down the other side of the scale.
I didn't have much time at home this afternoon before I was supposed to go to Dad's to help him with some computer issues. I did take the opportunity to brush the post-bangs tangles out of my new wig and put another layer of red on the Garnet Orb... and I spilled some of the bright red paint on the carpet. X_X Fortunately a few rounds of Oxy-Clean took care of it, but I got going later than I'd planned.
Then I wasted four hours at Dad's trying to fix things that refused to be fixed. I got the new monitor working, but that's about the only thing that went right. They've got an old laptop with a corrupted Windows file, and at one point I had three different computers and a stack of CDs and floppies going trying to get the Recovery Console up on the broken machine. I probably could've gotten it to work eventually, but I ran out of time due to bluescreens and flaky floppies. GRR. And the new printer software refused to work after I waited through the looooong download and install. I was there until midnight.
During all this I found out my dad and his fiance are having a housewarming party the night I get back from Boston. So now I don't have a ride to or from the airport next week, and I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm most likely going to have to spring for parking. And Seattle's up in the air as well. I got my tax refund, but the unexpected costs keep adding up...
Then around 11:30 my sister gets home from work and calls my cell phone wondering where I am. No biggie... until I ask when she'll be home tomorrow so I can get some help with my new wig. I need a real head to model the wig so I can get the bun stub in the right place. It's only going to take maybe ten minutes, I don't have anyone else to help, and I've been saying "please do this" and "I need you" for a week. But she doesn't want to, because it's silly and embarrassing, as if anyone's going to see it but me. I was tired and crabby and frustrated and I have a million things to do and only one day left to do them in. So I flat out told her if she doesn't do this for me tomorrow the wig's not going to get done and it'll be her fault. So she got mad at me for supposedly expecting her to bend over backwards for me all the time, and we argued. Yeah, it was childish and mean to put the blame on her, but "please" and "I need you" weren't working, and this is the only roadblock and there seriously isn't anyone else to do this for me. It's ten minutes of wearing a wig, geez. If my mom hadn't had to go home right away, she would've done it for me. And this was after my sister complained we were out of bottled water and why hadn't I bought any, and told me she got a magazine listing the best restaurants in the area and basically implied she wants to sample them on my dime. On the same phone call. Ten minutes of wearing a wig. Sheesh.
When I finally got home, I put way too much paint on the Garnet Orb and I'm going to have to sand it all off and start over. I'm running out of time. :(

Date: Mar. 15th, 2008 07:39 am (UTC)Still dunno about the airport. I know a lot of people through the con, but the few of them I really consider friends live way on the other side of the cities and I wouldn't want to ask them. I'm not really friends with any coworkers. My sister has a friend who might drive me there on Wednesday, and it turns out she might be able to take an hour off on Sunday to pick me up. So it looks like it'll be okay. :)
